OK. I did a search on here and found all the info about formmail.pl and how spammers use it.

My server came under attack this month and I was getting thousands of bouncebacks each day which were spams being sent from my server.

I had my programmer write a php script to replace the formmail file and deleted all of the formmail.pl files.

Will this thwart my spammer? I figure a few will continue to bounce back even if it does work. I just need to know if I am on the right track.

I haven't gotten any returned email from my server, so it must have worked!

I was getting so much spam sent through my server that it was causing it to disconnect from the internet. What a pain! Hopefully this is the solution.

Yes, older versions of formmail are insecure and a target of spammers.

By removing it, or replacing it with a secure solution, your problem should be gone.

You might continue to see a few bounced messages as various queues continue to be processed around the web, but that's it.
