I found this host posting a request in this forum then I think I should post my opinion about this host.

The main points I think could be useful to other are the following:

Setup: The setup was fast, I'm not using credit card , I prefer to use Paypal and after few hours I sent the money using paylpal I recived account details (ftp, control panel links,passwords…) .

Downtime: I’m using the free monitoring service from http://uptime.openacs.org , the downtime report is below. Openasc check the site each 15, 20 minutes and probably these 15, 20 minutes of downtime can be false alarms , in other words , practically I did not note any downtime, but this report from Openasc is the only objective data that I have to evaluate downtime.

Speed of the server: I did not make any benchmark to test the speed of downloads , but as subjective opinion I think the speed is fine for me and my users located in Brazil. I made my own backup solution where I created very basic webservice using nusoap and php to make an automatic server to server communication to send every day a dump of my database, compress the file and send the backup from my account at STX-Hostiong to a Windows server account that I have in another host and it takes 10 seconds to send 2Mbytes file using SOAP protocol that is not very optimized to send binary data. I think STX-Hosting make backups, but I do my own to avoid other problems not related to server malfunctions ( HD explosion , CPU burned ,etc ) , for instance, someone can find a security hole of phpBB2 and clean all messages from my forum.


Suport: I sent a few support questions and I received replies in less than 24 hours.


Control Panel: The control panel is WebPanel and compared to another control panel that I know ,Cpanel, is not very good and do not present a good usage report like webalyzer.


I’m satisfied with STX-HOSTING for the price that I pay , 2.5 US$/month for 3Gig of transfer , promotional plan. I hope to stay with STX-Hosting, but I always prepared to move if the service begin to deteriorate.

Sounds not bad, those downtime alarms can be caused by server reboots, not a big deal:)

We have progressed since then and built on any problems we where having.

forumgp is also an excellent customer and we have integrated many of his suggestions to our service.

I’m using stx-hosting for six months now and have no major problems, control panel was changed to Cpanel 6 with many new features.

The uptime is very good, only one major downtime , few hours , during my period with stx-hosting because control panel change to Cpanel.

Support still fine, generally I receive responses within 24 hours or less.

The server seems fast and no signal of overcrowded server after these months.
