Seagate came out with the new 180 Gig SCSI drive. So, how many are going to get it? :)

You can see the specs here. http://www.digit-life.com/articles/barracuda180/index.html

MSRP $2170?

Not me. Personally I'd prefer to get an Escalade 6400 and run four 80GB ATA drives in RAID 10 mode for half the price (and better performance) -- or get an Escalade 6800 and 8 drives and have double the performance and double the capacity for the same price.

I suppose the Seagate has the advantage of taking very little space, but is 1U of rackspace really worth over $1000?

Check out the Cheetah X15 instead.. That's what I call a drive.. I have the older 10,000RPM Cheetah myself.

Better performance hum ..... too bad it would crash after editing video for 15 minutes

unfortunately themm *******s at segate know there is a market for it .. suckers like me that need the space, but cannot use IDE (IDE in video world is a joke anyway)

I'd rather use a raid array....

Rair is nice, but for real time video editing still works best on a SCSI raid solution.

Ata is catching up though in speed when you combine it with RAID. Its still not as good as SCSI, but for the budget, its nice.
