DJ alpha 04-19-2001, 11:56 PM i've heard about this registrar just recently... i also would like some input on thier reliability in support and how fast they respond to support requests thanks Akash 04-20-2001, 08:40 AM Gimmicks: none Speed: What company doesn't like to take your many really fast? I'd recommend them. I don't know why everyone else is paying 2-3 times as much for their domains.... Mivo 04-20-2001, 10:01 AM I've recently registered a batch of domains with GoDaddy and there was no mishaps so far. They also offer a reseller package where you can have your own brand on the registration page. However I've also read a recent report that domain name sales are down generally (the dotcom dread) and that small domain name registrars are purportedly in danger of collapsing. Duster 04-20-2001, 10:10 AM Do a search here on tehm and youll find a recent discussion what brings up some disturbing things about them. Matrix 04-20-2001, 12:37 PM Well I registered a domain through someone else and a few weeks later I noticed by accident that my name hadn't been registered. So I went to godaddy and registered it within a matter of minutes. Also the whois was upated right after I purchased the name through them. So far I don't have any problems with them. They are good priced and fast at registering the name. JapAniManga.ch 04-20-2001, 01:15 PM Hi, Originally posted by DJ I have been registering a few domains for around US15 a year. DJ there are other Registrars who have also such good Prices like: - PowerPipe.com for USD 8.88 (have registred some Domains with them and they was very fast - only bad thing is that you have for every Domain a own CP-Account) - BargainName.com for USD 8.95 (GKG-Reseller) ... and My Favorite ... - Stargateinc.com for USD 10.--/1 Domain/Year or USD 8.--/2+ Domains/Domain/Year; this Price is also for Transfers and they are (I have transfered some Domains from Joker.com/CoreNic in 2 Day's) very fast. The CP is great. JapAniManga.ch 04-20-2001, 01:28 PM Originally posted by akashd I don't know why everyone else is paying 2-3 times as much for their domains.... --)) The same goes for Me, why should I pay USD 15.--/USD 30.--/USD 35.-- per Year when I can have it for under USD 10.-- with the same good Service. Example: I transfered 29 Domains from Joker.com to Stargateinc.com: Joker.com: 29 x USD 11.-- = USD 319.-- Stargateinc.com: 29 x USD 8.-- = USD 232.-- --- Economize ---))) USD 87.-- !!! Hey for that Money I can register 10 Domain's at Stargate ! OK, some say's that Registars like Register.com have such a good Service and thats the Reason why they pay so much, but I must say that Stargate have the same good Service with all what someone need. Matrix 04-20-2001, 01:31 PM How hard is it to transfer names from register.com? I had some names come up for expiration so I had to renew them at $35 a year. I could have gotten like 5 years at godaddy for that much. JapAniManga.ch 04-20-2001, 01:41 PM Originally posted by Matrix How hard is it to transfer names from register.com? I can only say it for Joker.com/CoreNIC -) Stargeteinc Transfers but they had 2 Day's to make the Transfer and all was Web/Mailbased, no Fax, no SnailMail. A normal Transfer should not take longer as 5 Days, when I'm right is this a ICANN-Rule. Duster 04-20-2001, 09:18 PM Originally posted by Matrix So far I don't have any problems with them. They are good priced and fast at registering the name. [/B] I hope you don't encounter any problems with them. However, if you bother to look up an earlier discussion about them, you;d leanr that their TOS and origins are rather disturbing. If you shop by price alone, whether for a host or registrar, you're asking for trouble. Many problems do not surface until later on. How hard is it to transfer names from register.com? The point about $35 is well taken though. There are a few registrars (even besides NSI) charging that much. I expect they will either change or disappear from the marketplace within 2-3 years. There are too many good registrars in the under $15 range for anyone by the totally uninformed to pay $35. schweiz 04-20-2001, 11:56 PM Originally posted by Matrix How hard is it to transfer names from register.com? I think if you try to transfer your domain away from register.com, they will reduce the renewal price for you. This is what they say with their transfer confirmation email: "...We hope you'll reconsider and renew your domain name with register.com for an additional year for only $12!..." But I transferred my domain anyway, so I dont know how real the deal is? Anyone??? Matrix 04-21-2001, 08:33 AM Duster, I don't think most people read the TOS rules. I did go check out what was read the other day and I do see your point. As for register.com when I registered my domains at $35 they sent me an e-mail saying that I could register other ones for $15 but I couldnt find anything anywhere on how to do it. I think it was total BS and the only way to get it was to set on the phone for 30 minutes trying to get a hold of them. You know the kind they make it hard as hell to take them up on something, because in all reality they don't want to give it to you. If they don't, they should and only have themselves to blame for terms that are in there that are not agreeable. Unfortunately, some registrars, like some hosts, do not list all their terms, or don't list them openly. For instance, alldns.com, a lousy registrar does not mention on their TOSD their $20 fee if you wish to transfer from them to another regsitrar. You probably won't find out until you go to transfer and then discover the heretofore unndiclosed extra departure fee. Shame on them. Read my post about TUCOWS overtaking Verisign and you'll see another. captnroger 04-21-2001, 11:22 PM Personal experience is a thumbs up...I registered a domain there last night and less than 24 hours later it was propigated throughout the Net! |
