I am looking for a simple cart with good features and clean layout. Something that will work with no hassle out of the box, reliable and secure.

I have left with the following 4: Opencart, Prestashop, Quick.Cart and zencart.

What would you recommend by experience and why?

There are probably a few better ones for your needs, but if you only care about those 4, than Presta would be good for you.

I do have my own server for hosting. I will be interested in professional support service but at a later point when I really have a lot of customers.

I suggest you to use Presta, too.

It has a good interface and Ajax enabled, thats worth to give a try.

Prestashop would probably be your best bet out of the four you listed.

Checkout Zingiri Web Shop. Integrates nicely with your Wordpress site.
