Hi,
I want to reinstall my raq4i OS. i have the OS restore CD. How do I hook up a CDROM to it or is there any other way to load the OS?
If anyone has ever reinstalled a 4i OS, please point me in the right direction.

I am not positive, but if you have the right kind of CD drive you should be able to hook it up to where the second HD goes. In general, if you have SCSI then you hook up a SCSI CD, otherwise hook up a "normal" CD.

the cd says in requirements that it needs to boot off the CD. is this something that is CDRom specific?

will i have to worry about getting cdrom drivers on there?

all you need is a crossover cable and another computer with a CDROM. let the computer boot to the cd and answer YES...

crossover cable? crossover IDE cable will make a IDE drive work on a scsi?
.john
Ahhh I dont know if I should answer that.... the crossover cable connection is a pretty basic networking method for tcpip....

Boot an x86 laptop or PC off the OSRCD. Complete directions will be on the screen.
Basically, you power off the RaQ. Boot a laptop or PC with a compatible NIC (listed in the directions) off the OSRCD. Once it's up and running, connect the RaQ and the laptop/PC with a crossover ethernet cable, or 2 regular ethernet cables plus an switch or hub.
Power up the RaQ, holding down the "S" button next to the LCD. Once it comes up, you'll see a "boot from" message in the LCD. Press "S" twice more until it reads "boot from net", then press "E"
You're hands-off at that point. The RaQ will reboot itself once. Don't touch it until you see "Please turn power off now" on the LCD. Then it's done.

One more follow up - the BIOS/ROM in the RaQ doesn't support a CDROM being connected to the IDE connector. Nor will it boot from the external SCSI connector. The only way to rebuild it is using the ethernet connection.
