Hello All,

I seem to be having problems with using perl. I have this CGI program that looks up domains in real time. It's easy to use and everything, it just doesn't work because it says "Internal Server Error", the program is located at http://www.fortunehosting.com/cgi-bin/whois.cgi. I was told the "perl module" may need to be installed, how exactly do I go about doing this? Another problem may be with the cgi-bin directory. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'll give this program to anyone that even attempts to help me out. Just email at admin@fortunehosting.com. Thanks.

As a Non-Programmer, but a heavy user of some CGI/PERL based forums and a few other gizmos, I would make the following suggestions:
1 Check the "path to perl"
2 Check all permissions according to any supplied "read me" file.
3 Check all paths to directories that you have to input.
4 Double and tripple check the above.

Permissions and paths are usually the culprit. perl modules can be too, if the host did not set it up correctly for your needs.... but you need to tell them any specific modules you need.

I'd be happy to help. PM if it's still needed. Tried to email you, but it bounced back.

Hello,

Paths are correct, perl modules installed, everything checks out, now if it only ran! How ironic is that? Can anyone else help? I'm thinking there's something wrong with the cgi-bin directory, if so how can I fix it! Thanks.

What does the server error log say?

create a new folder called "scripts" and chmod it to 755 and try to run the cgi`s from there this will tell you if there is a problem with your cgi-bin
I have had similar problems some scripts run some don`t this usualy fixes the problem also make sure you are uploading the files in ASCII mode and not binary.

I don't think he will be posting here again anytime soon - he's been banned.
