Are there any webhosting companies that have servers at Rackspace. If there are, could you let me know if a possibility of a special deal exists with those guys.

For the past year or so, I was trying to figure out the business model that would allow me to have servers at Rackspace and run a profitable hosting business. My calculations resulted in prices for the hosting plans that were not even remotely competitive I would like to acquire a peace of mind that comes with Rackspace however it seems to be a mutually exclusive item with profits. :)

Obviously, you're not going to target the market you see here if you're using Rackspace for your dedicated servers. Nothing at all wrong with that. Not everyone likes to eat at McDonalds. Running a hosting company out of Rackspace is a great idea, just think what your target market will be. What customers are going to be willing to pay the extra money to have the quality that Rackspace prides itself in providing? I'm sitting in the office of a company right now that has its site hosted by a company that has Rackspace servers. We did that because it's absolutely critical that the site works at all times. We could have gotten the hosting at 1/4 the price, but a hundred dollars saved over a year is nothing to a company that did five million in sales last year. So, what's your target market? If it's the kind of people that make hosting requests here, don't use Rackspace.

Hmm, excellent point. The niche that jumps out at me right away is mission critical/business hosting. Question then becomes could you point me in the direction of business to business hosting resources so I can get a feel for this niche :).

Thanks

Rackspace is great - if you absolutely have to make sure your legit emails are blocked by anti-spam filters.

They aren't McDonalds, they are the alley behind the McDonalds where the grease gets poured down the drain.

Notice the "cheapy" rackshack's listing?

Why someone would host a mission critical site with someone who is willing to let ip blocks get blocked just for a few spam dollars, is beyond me. Just curious, is your mission critical business sending spam?

Not everybody uses spews or spamhaus. If you get a server at rackspace you'll be quite safe getting your emails out to their destinations.

Матросов, RS offer $500 off your first payment in case you're introduced by their client. So, you may want to look around.

I've also heard of people getting cheap deals after a few days of negotiations with them. The trick is to make them beleive that you're never gonna use what you're asking for, ie traffic.

Успехов.

You may want to checkout ServerBeach, I think they were purchased by RackSpace. Call them and see what you think... ;)

Oh, ok.:) Well not many hosts go with Rackspace because of the price, but the ones that do make a very good profit and keep their customers very happy. I say, if you have a Rackspace server, don't go marketing on WHT. Most people here want everything for nothing and are not willing to pay the extra money for the quality in Rackspace. To accomidate for those at WHT that only need "standard" hosting instead of "premium", I own 2 servers, one at Rackspace and another one at a standard place. That way, if there are people who don't want to pay a lot I can still offer them my quality support but on a different server. I'd say that my choice at going for quality is much wiser than going with cheaper places. If you'd like to talk to me I'm open on IM - AIM: msiacl or ICQ: 163075727.

As for price negotiations... yes, Rackspace will negotiate pricing. Just get in contact with them via the phone, email, or live chat on their site and talk to a sales representative. They will probability help you out very well.

Incorrect. ServerBeach aquired a Rackspace datacenter. They are no way connected to Rackspace and Rackspace is in no way connected with Serverbeach.

That's true... there was some confusion about this a while about at WHT of the connection between Rackspace and ServerBeach and we found that it was only the fact that ServerBeach acquired a datacenter that Rackspace originally had done up, but decided not to use it.

It is amazing that you can talk to ServerBeach and if you tell them you have a server at RackSpace they will tell you that they can move it for you and just start you on their billing.
