View Full Version : Web Host Expo?
inet7 04-19-2001, 09:34 PM Anyone planning on attending the big "web host expo" event this August?
I was a little disappointed to find they charge "admission" to such an event (whopping $399!) since the money to be made for them "should be" from the exhibitors.
An nice example of how to run a show like this would be the "strictly ebusiness expo" in Minneapolis in May. A huge event with 500-750 exhibitors each year......and NOT ONE DAMN CENT charged to the visitors. (of course....a 10x10 space with no table, no carpet and no electricity is $2500,....I checked. YIKES!)
At any rate, just thought I'd spout off a little to see what you all thought.
jayglate 04-19-2001, 09:35 PM I am heading down there. Expect it to be alot of fun. My freind iz (the owner of webhosting magazine) is the one putting on the show.
allan 04-19-2001, 10:21 PM Kenneth,

That's pretty much how a trade show floor works. :)
inet7 04-20-2001, 02:21 AM Sorry guys....been out at our ummm....weekly meeting. (cocktails anyone!:D )
We're thinking about going....just to get away on business and meet a few people in the industry (and did I mention Cocktails?). You can expect there to be nothing but selling to the Web Host market....since that's the whole point.
Jayglate: Big Kudos to your bud for the great magazine!
Boksoft 04-20-2001, 05:09 AM I will be attending too.
Altough I don't like that fact that I have to fly 8 hours for it :(
Tim Greer 04-20-2001, 06:37 AM Well, I don't know about all of you, but I sure could think of a lot better places to go and be able to write it off as a business trip, and spend the extra money on renting a boat to boot!
Boksoft 04-20-2001, 06:58 AM Tim,
I simply add a few free days to it, so I can do some "sight-seeing" also.

We're only about 1/2 hour out of DC, so we'll probably make it in for at least the Expo, I don't know about the whole conference.

My wife and I went down the Bahamas in January, and weren't really that impressed...
Now, the Florida Keys, that's a different story :D.
cbaker17 04-20-2001, 08:38 AM Everyone whos going fromt wht needs to get together and go bar hopping :)
allan 04-20-2001, 09:02 AM Bar hopping sounds good to me :).
Oh God.... bar hoping internet junkies, now that ought to be a sight to see.....
cbaker17 04-20-2001, 09:29 AM Anyone know if whmag is going to be throwing a party after the expo???
inet7 04-20-2001, 09:59 AM Oh Great.:( I mention "cocktails" once and now DC's gonna be in trouble. I can see the headlines now:
"Last night, opening day at a conference for Web Hosting Companies, thirteen people were injured after a fight broke out between two groups of competing companies in the industry.
Witnesses say that the fighting started after someone allegedly shouted their company "was the best...so everyone else should be put to rest". Alcohol was involved.":stickout

Hehe, absolutely :)
AtlantaWebhost.com 04-20-2001, 11:16 AM I was planning to attend the expo, but unfortunatly the event date conflicts with some classes at GA Tech. I would like to start attending more conventions to get a chance to "network" (in the traditional sense) with others in the industry. However, if I did go I would have to miss out on your bar hopping trip.
I am still waiting to get an official confirmation from Microsoft, but Atlanta Web Host will most likely have a booth at the MS Big Day conference in Atlanta on June 5, 2001. If anyone has a chance to go to a MS Big Day event, I would recommend it. They are great places to be indocternated by Microsoft ad propaganda (learn how Windows and Microsoft Office can save the world)and get free food and drinks.
Best regards,
Frank Rietta
Jason Ellis 04-20-2001, 01:34 PM I'll be going to the expo in August. Should be fun. Count me in on the bar-hopping, too, should that end up getting organized. Just, let's try to do the bar-hopping on the last night, not the first. I'm paying a lot of money to go to this thing, the last thing I need is a hang-over during the expo :stickout
cbaker17 04-20-2001, 01:57 PM haha very right

I don't know, I find that talking to Vendors while hungover usually works a lot better for me :).
