About my experience
I registered and renew domains here..
I got the bad way with 1and1.com

1. If you forget to cancel the domain name... you will get charged
2. if your domain name expire 1-April-10 and you cancel this domain
at 1-April-10 you will get charged...

I have a lot of domains there
I forget to cancel quite often . and get charged from them all the time

( we have to put our credit card number there they can charge anytime if they think its correct )

They told me that I canceled late i have to cancel it before 2 day...
Some time i canceled it as they told Sometime they charge me..
I have to report it to them .. they will refund me back.. but too slow. may be 1 month. they will refund it back


BUT IF I FORGOT TO CHECK IT ??

3.If you Use domain name at 1and1.com Please check your billing every time because.. some time they charge money from U actually this domain was canceled already or move

about no.3
I always get this trouble every year.. total 3 year
they charge me actually that domain was transfered 3 year ago
i always tell them every year about this..
after that waiting for refund my money back...
actually its not my fault

IF I FORGET TO TELL THEM ?
they will check back or not ?

is auto-renewal optional there or not?

obligatory auto-renew saves bunch of money for those who forget to renew domains and later would need to pay big fees to get them out of redemption.

from the other hand if you decide to NOT renew domain you should be able to disable auto-renewal whenever you decide so

Yes but if you turn off auto renewal...
it mean that you can not renew it byself..

How to know you will renew or not in the future or next year..
its up by my client

its not the same ICANN we have time after expiration 45 day left

and the bad way we can not renew more than 1 year as other service provider



Now they try to charge my money about domain name that was transfered from my account
long long time ago

i sent mail to them 2-3 time. but no one answer me

1and1 always sends me an email a couple weeks in advance notifying me a domain name is up for renewal.

Same here, but 1and1 is not known for an easy user interface or for stellar customer support.

I had a friend suffering from the same problem, I advised him to move to another company then moved and ended problem

And I advise you the same advice

move to name.com

btw, with 1and1 if you don't pay $5 on time, you'll get threats from collections daily.
