*FDI* 03-30-2010, 11:45 AM Hello
I'm new to the video streaming hosting, so I need your advice folks
I want to braodcast a video for a football match , I just want to broadcast one game so I dont want a monthly thing , I need to rent this service 2-3 hours per month,
and embeded this stream in my website as youtube video
is there any provider to this service
I think about a cloud server from rockspace but it will cost me a lot
the estimate No. of visitors will be 100,000
any idea
thanks in advanced
xtrac568 03-30-2010, 12:07 PM if you don't want monthly, cloud is your best bet.
100.000 viewers is a lot, that can not be done cheap.

thanks for replay
the cost will be on the bandwidth in the cloud server but I can't be sure how to calculate the bandwidth
if I use the 128 bit rate how can I calculate the bandwidth for the 100,00 viewers
and if you can recommended other solutions please let me know
thanks xtrac568
xtrac568 03-30-2010, 12:39 PM for 128kbit stream, roughly speaking,
100 viewers = 10mbit uplink connection
1000 viewers = 100mbit uplink connection
and so on..

128kbps for video is verging on unwatchable...
At 320x240 with ~200kbs video and ~64kbs mono mp3 audio it'll be watchable, however with 100,000 concurrent watchers you're going to be needing close to 3.5gbit of raw bandwidth.
Even at $2 per megabit that's $8000 per month without taking equipment costs into account, and you'd be looking at 10+ beefy servers to serve it.
Considering those prices you might want to look at SimpleCDN who provide hosted Wowza2 services at around 10 cents per concurrent user (with no bandwidth restrictions) which would be significantly cheaper.

well, these simplecdn live! buckets are interesting.
they say there's no bandwidth limits, only concurrent limits, so how that actually works, you'd be pushing really huge traffic with high bitrate media for e.g. 10 000 viewers.
*FDI* 03-30-2010, 04:21 PM thanks guys
100,000 viewers will cost 9950$ monthly cost by using simpleCDN live Buckets service
I need this service just about 3 hours a month , any company like simpleCDN provide a hourly rate ? hour rate depends on simpleCDN price will cost 13.81 $
it be a nice if there is a company like that , will think to have it ;)
TBradley 03-30-2010, 10:10 PM Hello *FDI*,
Even though you only need a server for a couple hours, I still think that a Dedicated Server payed monthly would be the way to go, you could get it for cheaper then if you payed on the cloud that you are referring to. Not to mention the fact that you would have plenty of space to host multiple other sites, blogs, forums, etc. I would think that just getting a Dedicated Server with some upgraded Bandwidth would get you bye with no problem.

So... would you like to suggest a hardware & software configuration that can handle 100k concurrent RTMP streams (regardless of what bitrate they are)?
Evolv5 04-06-2010, 03:41 PM Just a thought ... how about broadcasting through free services such as LiveStream or Justin.tv?
jordanriane 04-06-2010, 03:44 PM Evolv, I was just about to say the same thing. Ustream.tv, Justin.tv... That'll all get the job done for free.. It will definitely handle a LARGE load of viewers too.
Evolv5 04-06-2010, 03:58 PM He could even handle an even greater amount of viewers if he combined all the alternatives out there!

He'd have to have multiple sources to be able to do that then. If you have one source, you can only stream to one of those sites
Evolv5 04-06-2010, 04:07 PM .......................Server 1# ------> LiveStream
1 source ---< ................................................>--- Embed on your website, split viewers 50/50
.......................Server 2# ------> Justin.tv
Just a thought, I've never tired this, and I like drawing text based diagrams :)

Hello,
You would have to have several servers in a redundant, load balanced environment with an extremely large switch. I would say around 5 high end servers load balanced, with something like a 1000mp uplink, (or more). A "PRIVATE" cloud would be your best bet.
FLV Guy 04-06-2010, 04:51 PM Once you have the server that's great, but what software are you going to use?
Wowza, FMS, RedHat?
You'll need something that can actually deliver the stream otherwise all of the servers in the world aren't going to do you any good.
