View Full Version : Getting a discount for two accounts?

I won't put this in Web Hosting Requests because it's basically anecdotal evidence I like:

Do hosts give sizable discounts for placing two accounts with them?

Multi hosting wouldn't work because I'd need two completely differrent accounts, contact details, logins, payment, etc.

Actually I guess you'd call it a referral because strictly speaking I'd have nothing whatsoever to do with the other account after signup (but really I would as it's for my company :) )

Doing this way seems like a good way for my hobby site to ride on the back of a more expensive higher quality arrangement for my company ...so to speak.

Does it work out like this?

Some offer discounts. Some don't.
Some post it. Some don't.
Best thing to do is ask; if it's a host you're interested in and it doesn't specifically state on site.

Search around. Several hosts are offering Christmas specials now. I'm sure that you can find something to your liking.

What other hosts besides theprimehost.net are offering Christmas specials?

I'd say most would be flexible enough to work with you if you raised this question with them prior to signing up.

Ask and (most of the time) you shall receive.
Seeing as how CC transactions take around $1.50 to complete, you should get at least that much off your second account if you pay for both sites in one payment per month. Also because you will only need support for one person for both your sites, that's worth some additional savings to them.
I think the standard is around 20% off though, so if your first account is $10.00, you should ask for $2.00 off a second one.
Hosts LOVE repeat business, so who's going to turn you down?

Depending on if you think you might need to host additional sites down the road a small reseller package might be another solution to your needs. I have seen some very small reseller plans here at WHT for as low as $9.95 though I cant speak on terms of reliability.

I can't speak for other hosts, but we personall offer multiple domains for our larger accounts. Basically we split the resources into smaller accounts (accroding to the request of the client).

If it was up to me, I'd do one transaction and give a discount (as posted above, because of transaction fees). I'd probably just give a 2 domain reseller account, instead of setting up two seperate accounts myself.

Its a good biz idea, that i havent seen on many webhosts sites.
"Get 3 for 2" or something,
Like "More discount the more you buy!"
then ppl gather around and buy several accounts together,
if this discount didnt exist, none of them would buy it at all maybe... It generally works, We use it at my shoe store ;)

Can be tricky to make a good regform if several ppl for the same deal...

The main requirement here is that everything be kept separate as I'm doing on behalf of my company and there is of course a small chance that the relationship will end and there'll be too much mess to clear up (I'm still single for the similar reasons! ;) )

So I can't go for full multihosting and no savings can be made on billing (although said company will probably go for a quarterly or six month plan)

I'm sure savings can be made on IP address (I don't mind sharing that with them although they have a propensity to upset people with some of their mail outs ;) ) Also I could all but guarantee that combined disk space and bandwidth would be lesser than that allocated to the smaller of the two plans. I generally only use 5-30% of what I'm allocated.

Anyway thanks for the feedback. I guess it's coming time to put something in the requests forum and start making direct enquiries...
