Who currently has the best scalable cloud offering so far? There aren't that many providers that offer this, so there have to be some that have their infrastructure better then the rest.

Crothers 03-29-2010, 06:02 PM Amazon AWS is "probably" one of the top 3 leaders. With Google App Engine "probably" in the top 3 as well. Rackspace has a great offering. VPS.net has a top of the line API if your looking to resell. techjr 03-29-2010, 06:10 PM I would say amazon rackspace and stormondemand if you consider storm as a vps seller... vps.net is good for reselling but they have had some complaints this month like 3 pages worth from an attack of some sort so I am waiting for that situation to fix itself before I would mention them. Link to thread? Any feedback on SL cloud vps? techjr 03-29-2010, 06:26 PM Link to thread? Any feedback on SL cloud vps? http://www.vps.net/forum/public-forums/general-discussion/2071-vps-net-quality-is-dropping-fast There is a newer one that I am trying to find for ya but cannot seem to find it at this moment, Don't get me wrong they are still one of the tops but it seems from past threads that a few exploitive customers are getting away with it for a large period of time before something is done about them. WireNine 03-29-2010, 08:31 PM Downtime for a cloud server, I thought their services were self-healing :o nickn 03-30-2010, 06:49 AM http://www.vps.net/forum/public-forums/general-discussion/2071-vps-net-quality-is-dropping-fast There is a newer one that I am trying to find for ya but cannot seem to find it at this moment, Don't get me wrong they are still one of the tops but it seems from past threads that a few exploitive customers are getting away with it for a large period of time before something is done about them. The joys of client forums being public :) Anyhow, these clients did not leave, we had a very bad week of DDoS attacks before we could beef up our DDoS mitigation infrastructure. This made a rough week of no sleep for all of us. These clients in this thread are all with VPS.NET. We maintain a very open line of communication, so a post may seem a bit more of a "end all" then it really is :) orbixworks 03-30-2010, 10:39 AM VPS.net anytime. If your a reseller as well they've got an awesome integration going on with WHMCS. sam9 03-30-2010, 02:53 PM "Who is the top Cloud (VPS) provider?" In terms of?... 1. Ease of use 2. Seamless "elasticity" 3. Flexibility of payment 4. Choice of images / platforms 5. Managed support or support truz 03-30-2010, 03:11 PM vpshive.com has a nice setup with self-healing. backed by the 100% network uptime by gigenet.com Cape Dave 03-30-2010, 04:19 PM I am enjoying a trial with StormonDemand, Liquid Web. I like it ALOT. Slick control panel. BIG RAM! ServerOrigin 04-03-2010, 10:25 PM RackSpace = excellent Softlayer = Excellent Amazon = thumbs down... Cheap hardware and oversold. Highly supported by lots of apps and companies but I'd recommend against it. VPS.Net = Great - Good speeds, support, ease of use. GregEm2727 04-04-2010, 12:31 AM Used Amazon and SoftLayer. Both have their perks and uses for us. I would go with SoftLayer if you're looking for the best scalability and diversity. Amazon offers the most services for the cloud but SoftLayer offers so much more in the way of overall services. Their cloud is also much easier to recover from failure. Amazon requires more attention to manage. sam9 04-04-2010, 03:53 AM Interesting discussion. A lot of very strong opinions. :) Suggestion: Break up "good" "bad" average" on the basis of: 1. Ease of use 2. Seamless "elasticity" 3. Flexibility of payment 4. Choice of images / platforms 5. Managed support or support WireNine 04-08-2010, 02:32 AM Used Amazon and SoftLayer. From my personal experience, rackspace.com is the best. I have also heard very good things about softlayer.com as well, though I have never used them. Katatonic 04-08-2010, 03:44 AM Any one know what kind of "self healing" VPS.net / others use? I'm assuming it implements some kind of high availability / but what's the rebuild process when a node goes down? dazmanultra 04-08-2010, 05:03 AM Any one know what kind of "self healing" VPS.net / others use? I'm assuming it implements some kind of high availability / but what's the rebuild process when a node goes down? It just means that if an issue is detected with a front-end node (e.g. hardware failure), the VPS's running on that node are moved to spare capacity. The important thing to note is that hardware failure is just a small part of providing a high availability hosting solution. nickn 04-08-2010, 05:11 AM Any one know what kind of "self healing" VPS.net / others use? Katatonic 04-08-2010, 06:23 AM VPS.NET uses onAPP to do all this. Thank you, that's just what I was looking for. Is their webpage under construction? www.onapp.com is just a parked page with an email. CRego3D 04-08-2010, 09:29 AM Thank you, that's just what I was looking for. OnApp site is still not public, it will be in the upcoming months, the software in the other end has been in development for over 2 years. Katatonic 04-08-2010, 09:36 AM Thanks Carlos. Good luck with the project! |
