View Full Version : TOS, AUP, and Privacy Policies
Hey everyone, I've been creeping around this site for the past few months and I've finally decided to pull the trigger and open a small web hosting business. I'm still in the process of getting the site set up and the backend working (I'm going to run WHMCS) but I was wondering about places to get the TOS, AUP, and Privacy Policies written. I didn't know if you all had any recommendations about purchasing such policy documents?
I look forward to becoming an active contributor on these forums! :D
IGXHost 03-28-2010, 02:47 PM You should check out www.hostlegal.net
They have TOS, AUP, and Privacy policy templates ready to be used for purchase.
Great, that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the quick response!

You must also keep in mind your upstream supplier's TOS as well (data center, reseller). If they have any unusual terms, or specific activites which are not permitted on their network, this must be reflected, or incorporated into yours as well.

These templates would be USA focused... OK for the OP, but not sure that they could apply elsewhere without some amount modification...
KMyers 03-28-2010, 05:28 PM Greetings,
I am big fan of this TOS Generator. http://www.webmasters-cavern.com/tools/tosgen/index.php . Just be sure to take the output and change it as it is very generic.

Good point and I'll make sure to take that into account when wording some of these agreements.

That's very cool. It definitely is very generic but might be a good starting point that will allow me to plug in different sections to tailor the TOS how I would like it to read. Thanks for the link!
NOTE: Sorry about the weird quotes but the forum won't let me use the vB code until I hit 5 posts!
inspiroHost 03-29-2010, 03:12 AM Someone suggested docstoc.com here recently. It's a pretty neat website - check it out.
BH-Greg 03-29-2010, 04:14 AM Theres some free tos generators out there, Instead of spending money generate one and do some editing to it. Just helping you save some money :)

ya this works too lol or you could just go and use some other hosts TOS and AUP. I did that only cuz i actually know my host and he has helped me through so much of getting my hosting biz up and running. And that way i am able to reflect what his TOS and AUP stated and was also able to incorporate my own terms into it. i changed and expanded things and shortened things too.
so it worked pretty well for me.
iHubNet-Matt 03-29-2010, 03:22 PM Just to add, make sure you add what all you allow to host and what you didn't, suspension, money back polices, etc. If everything is included in the ToS legal complications can be avoided.
Andre C 03-29-2010, 11:50 PM I recommend HostLegal. Also, do some internet surfing to help as well.
