Hi, Just had a phone call from a friend who wants to make a digital download mp3 site for his band, so he can sell their tracks and albums to make some money for the band to buy new equipment.

Soon as he mentioned digital downloads etc, my first though was oscommence, But after talking to him i feel he might need joomla ?

He wants people to beable to download their music using paypal but he also wants an mp3 preview thing so people can preview the track for say 30seconds before they buy the track.

free/cheap template.

Suprised you haven't had anyone jump on the band wagon and offer some help already.

The answer really depends on how indepth your friend wants his website to be. You could do the whole shebang and tell him to get a billing system which will help him manage the details of the people who has bought his tracks and use them for advertisement purposes for future tracks and also manages all transactions made via PayPal and other payment gateways such as Google checkout. This could prove to be beneficial in the future and also allows automated e-mails to be sent automating the whole purchasing of the song and providing them with a link as soon as payment has been received.

Alternatively, if you feel in the learning mood, you could create a simple site and create a script, you can find a tutorial here (http://www.web-development-blog.com/archives/easy-payments-using-paypal-ipn/) that I've just found which communicates with the PayPal API and again will help automate the sending of the MP3 once payment has been made.

MP3 previews will have to be manually created (the 30second clips), you can do this with any freeware MP3 editing software, Audacity comes to mind which I know could do this for you.
