Hi People,

Had the domain FreeMX.net for awhile now, and finaly got round to doing something with it.

Basicaly we had trouble finding a backup MX server when we first started, so always thought about providing this kind of service one day.

As the name suggests, it's FreeMX hosting. Add out mail server to your DNS, and we'll act as a backup (once you've added your domain to our servers).

What do you guys think? We havn't gone live yet, as I'm interested in your feedback. We have the servers and scripts ready, just needs some fine tuning and T's&C's sorted out.

Is this worthwhile? Will people need such a service, or was it just us that needed MX backup a few years ago?

Cheers, Matt. :D

Wonderful idea! Just make a good design and don't have anything annoying on the page (like large popups, etc.) and you'll be set. :D

Backup MX has good things and bad things about it. If you use any spam blocklists, a backup MX will screw that up unless they use exactly the same blocklists. For any server that will normally be connected 24/7, it is more important to have good backup DNS with nameservers on widely separated nets. If your MX server is down, sending systems will just defer mail delivery. But if the sending system can't get DNS translation for your system, it will bounce it to the sender immediately.
