View Full Version : How to find my designer
curiousity 03-25-2010, 10:00 AM Hello, I'm looking for a designer to re-design the front page of a social network, and all the pages to fit with this change. I have some ideas but will be open to the artist views. It's CSS/XHTML and smarty template system. The script it's PHP/MySQL. Any suggestions on how to best do my search? Recommendations? I will need to see a portfolio. Thank you all.
kytech 03-25-2010, 10:13 AM You might try checking out a website like DigitalSpinner. It is a directory of website designers. What is nice about them is that you can search by the location of the designer (if you want a local person) or by the skills they have (i.e. search for someone that can code PHP, etc.). Hope this helps you out and good luck.
gotlivechat 03-25-2010, 10:14 AM Elance, Guru.com etc. Any of the freelancing/job sites will have a ton of individuals/businesses willing to do that work. And yes you definitely want to see a portfolio!
domainandhost 03-25-2010, 10:15 AM Post you offer in "design offers and requests" section for starters
The-Pixel 03-25-2010, 10:16 AM Hello,
I strongly suggest visit WebHostingTalk design section at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=141 Most signatures have a portfolio or website link that will provide you with more information. Best of luck!
curiousity 03-25-2010, 10:27 AM I will first follow the link provided to seek from the signatures provided on this forum, then the site provided and my last choice would be the mayor outsourcing sites. Thank you all for your guidance.

A lot of web designers steal work.
When I was looking for a new site to be done one company that is now bust due to him ripping people off and everything, he looked legit but after people looked into him he stole content from other web designers, reviews you name it he stole it.

But you can tell if a web designer actually has done the work or not usually by branding or branding in the page code.
Gratis Soft 03-29-2010, 10:49 AM I think it's wrong to trust one designer even if it's the best ever ...
Look for someone that would first offer you many ideas like a presentation. You don't want a design, you want your design. Finding the best designer solves nothing :)

In some ways yes.
But when you personally no the designer it becomes a totally different story. I will not use a designer if I do not know them in person and AB-Internet I do know, and they do a pretty good damn job too.
I have used many web designers and a lot of them are in it for the money at the start and do not wish to carry a "successful business" going, which is a shame when they have the skill and knowledge.
Pinkfreak 03-30-2010, 09:09 PM don't go for cheap go for quality most designers on freelancing sites do go for the minimum price but if you want a quality job done research websites.
getonlineteam 04-03-2010, 05:24 AM Do check their previous testimonal, if any.
Peter Bear 04-13-2010, 03:28 PM There a lot of sites where you can find the person you want, try to search
gotlivechat 04-13-2010, 11:06 PM Another possible to make of the designer is to ask for several mock-ups. You'll need to negotiate the pricing for it, or possibly they'll throw in a couple free. But mock-ups will at least give you a few choices for website design vs. having to go with just one they develop.

Mock-ups are classed as revisions if i am correct?
Every web designer I have dealt with calls them a "revision" if you are not happy with the site. and you usually get unlimited free revisions.
