View Full Version : ServerOutsource.NET
areabiznet 12-03-2002, 02:07 PM I have been doing some research on a few places that I would like to get a dedicated server from. I have seen ServerOutsource.NET in one of the forums here before but I am unable to find them by doing a search. What I was wondering is if anyone has any good/bad opinions of them. I am interested in them mainly because they are located in FL. I plan on moving there when I retire and would like a datacenter in FL near where I will live. I have the choice narrowed down to ServerOutsource.NET or UnitedColo. The only drawback is they are in CA. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
hostchamp 12-03-2002, 02:28 PM me too i am looking for some feedback on serveroutsource.net, i am particularly interested in their $49 / mo. server and would like to know if there are any catches / hidden costs etc.
lotuslnd 12-03-2002, 02:54 PM I think the search option has been modified to exclude serveroutsource or serveroutsource.net. Doing a search on those terms doesn't even find this thread. I'd be curious to know what people think as well though!
areabiznet 12-03-2002, 05:09 PM I think this post is bad or something because if you look at the icon for it it is an envelope with a dot on it. Does anyone know what that means?
davidb 12-03-2002, 05:27 PM the dot means you posted in it :)
IGobyTerry 12-03-2002, 05:32 PM It seems like the search index needs to be rebuilt or something.
lotuslnd 12-03-2002, 05:35 PM Or maybe they're blocked for some reason ... keep in mind this forum is owned by RackShack.
phpcoder 12-03-2002, 05:37 PM 1. Rackshack wouldn't do that
2. I don't even know if you can block things for people to search for...
IGobyTerry 12-03-2002, 05:39 PM Actually it's owned by Robert Marsh, the CEO of Rackshack. I believe he's running it as two different companies and I haven't noticed any bias towards rackshack. Threads about them have negative views that haven't been deleted or edited in any way. So I really think it's more with something to do with the search index.
CirKit 12-03-2002, 11:41 PM You can see what I had to say about them here:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=89071
I have 3 servers with them, first since July, last since last week. I'm presently in the midst of renumbering to switch over to their Aleron-issued IPs, which is a pain, but I'd still give them a thumbs up. The hardware has been rock-solid.
p.s. The obvious catch on the $49 server is that it needs a memory upgrade in a big way, at least by my standards. I have two 1GHz durons from them with 1GB of memory each, and THOSE are quite nice. :)
EDIT: Please note the "by my standards." I know linux will run with 128MB. So does the computer under my desk. I just need more for what I'm doing with my 1GHz Durons. YMMV of course. :)
lotuslnd 12-03-2002, 11:46 PM Sounds great. I signed up today so I'll post a review once I receive the box and have everything up and running!
SrvOutsource 12-04-2002, 11:47 AM CirKit,
Thank you.
Our $49/Month server was actually created to match the specs, and pricing of a competitor.
Since we received allot of request for it, we made it a regular offering.
FreeBSD seems to run ok on the 128Mb.
apollo 12-04-2002, 05:43 PM Linux will also work fine on 128MB memory.. it all depends what you want to do with the server of course
BiGWill 12-04-2002, 05:48 PM linux works well with 128mb, even with X.
but as apollo said, depends on what you'll be running on there.
best regards,
MatthewN 12-08-2002, 06:05 AM I have 2 dedicated servers with serveroutsource.net and am happy with them. The IP changes were a pain... but notice was given and I plan to stay with them as I get good support and generally no problems at all. I will be getting a 3rd server from them in the next few months.
Rudzer 12-08-2002, 06:45 AM The ip changing thing is already over tho?
Rigth?

Great... I have two servers with them and support respond time has been great.
Keep up the good work... David (ServerOutSource) ;)
Thanks.
Kindest regards,
Choon
MatthewN 12-08-2002, 10:02 AM Rudzer... I am 99.99999999% sure you will be alocated IP's in the new block!! They are around the 202.x.x.x mark somewhere I believe with out looking.
Chuggles 12-08-2002, 10:22 AM Are these all owned by the same people?
http://atwebhost.com
http://atwebhost.net (points to serveroutsource.net)
http://serveroutsource.net
SrvOutsource 12-08-2002, 12:07 PM Chuggles,
http://atwebhost.com/ is NOT us.
The other 2 are.
David
Rudzer 12-08-2002, 12:32 PM Why did you bought atwebhost.net , seems pretty much like cybersquatting for me (no ofense)
Chuggles 12-08-2002, 12:42 PM I was comparing different companies and was confused. After posting and researching I realized they are two completely different companies and was turned off that serveroutsource.net would include something like that in their marketing plan.
I may be old-school but ethically it's not making your company look very well. No offense but to a person considering your services (me), it seems to be a low and desparate tactic to gain customers.
Perhaps you will consider giving them the domain and save face. Just my two cents.
Thanks for the response though. :)
SrvOutsource 12-08-2002, 12:55 PM Rudzer,
Our parent company is AWebHosting, Inc. - AWH (awebhosting.net, etc.)
We registered different variations, so people could not claim to be us, which was starting to happen.
Anyone can look in a phone book, and see that this is done.
BTW: That is not that companies original name, they changed it a couple of months ago.
alain 12-09-2002, 11:12 PM David is a very kind man to deal with and i had no problem with serveroutsource. we have only 1 server with him but it works great.
lotuslnd 12-13-2002, 07:57 PM Hey,
I grabbed a box w/ these guys about a week ago. So far, I've seen two network outages. One lasted for ~ an hour as "Aleron was trying to add a /23 to the L3 switch, and crashed it." and again yesterday for about another hour, which again seemed like an Aleron issue. These two issues aside, I'm really satisfied w/ the machine considering how inexpensive it is.
Seeing this always makes me smile as well ...
ftp> get uumap.tar.Z
local: uumap.tar.Z remote: uumap.tar.Z
227 Entering Passive Mode (192,48,96,9,235,33)
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for uumap.tar.Z (8520221 bytes).
226 Transfer complete.
8520221 bytes received in 4.58 secs (1.8e+03 Kbytes/sec)
ftp>
Rockin! Can't go wrong with that.
Support? I've sent in one ticket when I a) wanted to ask about the first outage and b) wanted to reverse my IP and got a reply back and had my IP reversed within a few hours. So, support seems to be top notch!
Shoot me PM's if you have any questions.
lotuslnd 12-13-2002, 08:20 PM Sorry, one more comment ... have you guys noticed that http://serveroutsource.net is unavailable quite frequently? What's up with that?
SrvOutsource 12-13-2002, 08:45 PM Matt,
There was 1 outage that you mentioned when the Layer3 froze when Aleron was adding another /23, and the tech was out to lunch.
But Aleron or use showed no second outage for a hour you mention.
They did reboot the switch a couple times so the changes would take affect on Thursday.
THis switch is scheduled to be replaced with a SSR-8 as soon as we receive the 16Mb Flash cards for the ROS.
And our server is a W2k server box running everything on 256Mb RAM, and IIS is set to automatically restart, or reboot the server if it hangs.
We are upgrading this to 1Gb shortly.
Also we have been receiving over 100 attacks on it each day.
(Guess some people don't like our pricing.)
David
lotuslnd 12-13-2002, 09:19 PM Cool! Thanks for the clarification, David!
ThomasC 12-14-2002, 12:46 AM The only drawback is they are in CA
They are in Miami.
