Has anyone tried their $9.95 virtual server yet? How did you like it? jolly 12-03-2002, 06:13 AM There packages seems good they are offering good bandwith. But don't know how much resources they are offering. Hey chris you seems to be doing any Research in VDS/VPS. :D pgrote 12-03-2002, 01:54 PM I use the program. I can't tell you about the bandwidth aspect of it as I use it primairly for site development that I then move into their own accounts. What I can tell you is that the reliability has been great. Haven't noticed any downtime. Support has been good. It's a plesk interface that is easy enough. I had two questions that were answered in the forums. The only thing I have noticed that isn't the same with other hosts is that you have to request that domain names you create in plesk be added to their dns. It's a simple form fillout where you provide your domain name and IP address. Each time I have done that it's been completed within a day. For $9.95 I have been very impressed. Good service that is solid for what I need. I, Brian 12-03-2002, 06:10 PM I did a search at WHT a short while back, and couldn't find any immediate poo on these folks. chrisb 12-04-2002, 02:26 AM I checked their forums. Nothing real bad that I could see, except the host could have responded more professionally to some of the posts. It looks like they have around 150 members. Also, in the forum, the host tells customers that they do not have enough space on their $9.95 plan to use RedHat tools, vi, emacs or to recompile, after some people griped about it. So, they are advised to upgrade to a higher plan. Another concern about this company is that if they have all of this hardware/software that they claim to have, then they have quite an investment; and often large investments vanish quickly if they can't get enough customers fast enough... and with only 150 forum members I don't think they are getting enough customers very fast. I could be wrong, though. So, if that's the case, I'd want a virtual server with at least 500 mgs so I wouldn't have to worry about it. And, to get that much space with them it's $24.95, same as many others. That tells me they are lowballing just to get you in. Their ordering forms are also screwy, IMO. So, I happened to think of Weberz who has a $19.95 virtual server plan, and remembered he used Inflow, so I went to his site, and he'd changed data centers. :( jolly 12-04-2002, 04:42 AM They are using Dell with Raid 5. All SCSI drives. But they do not offer any CP they can only install simplecp or Webmin. And they do not make customized VDS. But it seems from there forum all there clients are pretty :D tracphil 12-04-2002, 08:58 AM Originally posted by chrisb So, I happened to think of Weberz who has a $19.95 virtual server plan, and remembered he used Inflow, so I went to his site, and he'd changed data centers. :( [/B] The VPS servers are at Global Compass in Atlanta. H-Sphere is still at Inflow, but we all know how I feel about H-Sphere. zephyr 12-04-2002, 04:24 PM Hello i got 2 accounts at Simplywebhosting, 1 shared rate-based and 1 VDS. Originally posted by pgrote .......... It's a plesk interface that is easy enough. I had two questions that were answered in the forums. In VDS u can setup ur own name servers and add as many domains u wish. VDS accounts starts at 9.95. U got plenty of bandwidth but VDS1 has only 200MB. No control panels, only webmin and ***. Now if u r planning selling webhosting the space isnt enough. about half of the space is 4 OS. But VDS1 its great for starting and learning VDS, testing and making your own Apps, etc. To do more serious things u gotta upgrade. Support is great, i often use their forum, no downtimes for VDS and speed is really good. I ve also noticed Weberz VDS. Both companies used VirtuoZZZ and *** but Weberz seems to offer more if u compare their plans at the same money. pgrote 12-04-2002, 04:33 PM Yep, I reported on the wrong thing. Sorry about that guys. zephyr 12-04-2002, 04:35 PM and something more about ordering forms at VDS every company selling VDS created by SWsofttt (VirtuoZZZZZZZ) have steup similar "store", that means u purchase an account and u can upgrade or buy resources "instantly" and activate as soon as u pay, its the "new age" coming.... :D as an example this s simplywebhosting : http://manage.speedingbits.com/site/index.cgi/store this s weberz : http://manage.weberz.com/site/index.cgi/store I think webhosting companies should work more and give their own "look n feel", what do u think? have a nice day tracphil 12-04-2002, 04:49 PM I tend to agree about the look and feel aspect of the "store". I thought about using modernbill so I can get a more custom look to it and put it in PHP instead of Perl but the backend to the store or the accounting side of it is about the best thing out. I wish they would let us customize it more with headers and footers, but I will settle for what it is for the moment. Thanks for the feed back though. |
