RobTheGolfer 12-02-2002, 11:12 PM Anyone use them and their non-cogent unmetered bandwidth? www.fdcservers.net - What do you guys think? adam 12-02-2002, 11:14 PM Hrm I think I saw some posts on here a little while ago about some downtime they had.. I could be mistaken though, try a search... mainarea 12-02-2002, 11:19 PM Use the search feature and look through the dedicated forum, you'll find plenty of info. I'm just weary of single homed hosts without backups. - Matt RobTheGolfer 12-02-2002, 11:23 PM I know how to search :D . Just wanted some updated opinions. anantatman 12-03-2002, 12:58 AM unmetered. heh. lets just see how much they can push before they disconnected again for illegal activity. seg fault 12-03-2002, 01:22 AM fdc was the worst company i had ever dealth with - but your searches will show you that wakkow 12-03-2002, 11:37 PM I have a cheapo server for personal sites and to play with.. The network is definitely a heck of a lot better than it was pre-downtime.. There were a few days there when it lagged a bit (dos attack? i dunno) .. Today I'm getting 0% packet loss with avg ping of about 80ms from my home dsl. Today they sent an email out asking for feedback about Yipes changing fdc peering through williams instead of level3 and complaints about latency problems.. I didn't notice anything. For the price I pay, I'm definitely satisified and expect downtime, lagginess at times, etc. I wouldn't say that a few months ago with the 200ms lags and like 30% packet loss. Thank you for the detailed response, unlike my hosticlle up there. skylab 12-04-2002, 08:38 AM so, is all of FDC's yipes-traffic peering through williams now? couldn't they just go straight to williams for their GIGe and get a better price than yipes?? tazzy 12-04-2002, 08:51 AM Hello, I believe the fact that Yipes can change from Williams to Level3 or to BBN/Genuity.. is slightly better than getting one of them and if there are problems not being able to switch. Yipes has probably done a pretty good deal on the gigabit ethernet connection for them :D. Which MAY be the reason why there now using Williams/WilTel instead of Level(3) or BBN/Genuity ;) skylab 12-04-2002, 08:56 AM agreed tazzy. but, thinking, if they're adding a cogent line next year as backup, they could easily add a williams + a cogent and possibly save a bit of green. but yeah, i would prefer the yipes line to a straight williams line, no doubt. :) tazzy 12-04-2002, 09:04 AM Hello, To be honest, I doubt there is much in it probably only $5-$10 per Mbit between gig-e to Williams and Yipes (or might be cheaper because Yipes would buy more than gig-e from Williams). I don't think its worth saving $5000 per month for 1gbps when you get peach of mind with Yipes. Adding Cogent and setting up Cisco BGP4 might be a good idea. StarGate 12-04-2002, 10:18 AM Email sent to all FDC clients: Our backbone provider (Yipes) recently updated their peering routes and the connection to our datacenter goes through Williams instead of Level3. Some of our clients notified us that the network latency got worse and that the connection isn`t as good as it used to be couple weeks ago. Yipes is working with us and with Williams to address this issue. In case you noticed worse than usual ping times or any other routing issues recently , please send us yours or your clients traceroutes showing the poor performance so we can forward them to Yipes. |
