View Full Version : Is the premium membership worth it?
Karbon 03-17-2010, 06:55 PM Is the premium membership worth it? I'm thinking about getting it to hopefully learn a few things that might be in there. Too bad there's not a 'preview' button lol. But anyways, is it worth it? Is the information in there about starting a webhost, as in what legal things I need to do, etc. Financing, etc. All that fun stuff that goes along with running a host.
jweeb 03-17-2010, 09:02 PM a question that i want to ask too..
123Systems-Andrew 03-17-2010, 10:14 PM I was reading the premium benefits and it doesn't seem worth it if your a business owner, The only one that's worth it as far as i can see is Corporate but that's very expensive
jweeb 03-17-2010, 10:15 PM Anyone who has a premium membership care to share?
It does seem costly, and benefits don't justify the cost.

General questions are probably best put in the regular forums. You can definitely ask them up in Premium, but that's not what the majority of what we talk about is...believeeeee me.

So is premium membership worth it?
Karbon 03-17-2010, 10:48 PM Nick H, can you tell me if the membership is worth it or not? I'm trying to think if it'd be beneficial to me trying to get a startup going or is it more of a place to chat and relax then discuss management, etc.
Nick H 03-17-2010, 10:52 PM is it more of a place to chat and relax
It's moreso this one ;)
MattS 03-17-2010, 11:20 PM It's not exactly for tips like that. The Premium membership is more like a lounge if you will.
Other perks like the magazine you look at once and pitch or the 6 day waiting time may be considered worth it on top of the blue name (which definitely has some mysterious powers behind it).

Care to explain these powers or will you be shot on site for telling the secrets?

I'm blue da ba di da ba die.
I dunno blue is a cool color and makes you stand out above the rest for some reason. It's $50 a year pretty cheap and you will most likely make it back I'm sure of it.
Corporate is an entirely different story however.
Karbon 03-17-2010, 11:46 PM How will I make it back? My job only pays $10/hr and is sporadic.
semoweb 03-18-2010, 01:49 AM For me it has been way worth it... i feel it's the least i can do beside's giving Bear hell! No Really... it's worth it to me because WebHostingTalk has been a HUGE! benefit to SemoWeb as we have gotten quite a few sign up's from WebHostingTalk user's so it's my way of saying thank's to WebHostingTalk, plus i can talk in the nice little section where other's cant unless your a member and it get's interesting in there :-)
If you can afford it and your company has grown client wise because of WebHostingTalk user's i dont see why there would be any question's if it's worth it :-)
Anyhow i wish you the best of the best and never give up on your dream's God Bless. :pimp:
WHU-Mike 03-18-2010, 01:59 AM If you want to pay $50 to see pictures of LOL cats; then yes, premium chat is worth it.
ahmednitul 03-18-2010, 03:48 AM Well. I guess it does =P
Nick H 03-18-2010, 04:38 AM it get's interesting in there :-)
Shhhh, what happens in PMT stays in PMT.

LOL, so very true.
I think I do most of the talking in there :o

A wise investment :D

Premium section is quite nice....I spend way too much time in there, but it makes the forum so much more interesting and I certainly am alot more active on WHT because of it :)
:lovewht:
campolar 03-20-2010, 09:35 AM *goes to buy the premium memebership and will reply to karbon's question if he remembers*
EDIT: Errmmm no i didn't buy...
Outlaw Web Master 03-20-2010, 11:17 AM $49.95/365 = $0.14 a day, so I'd say it's worth it.
owm
astraxis 03-20-2010, 01:53 PM Well i put my opinion the other way. For the information and knowledge i gain its just a small price to pay.. M'mm almost forgot one other important aspect of making money here i guess its a small price to pay for it.
Binoy
404Hosting 03-21-2010, 10:35 AM I would feel special if I had blue color.
railto 03-21-2010, 06:13 PM Im sure i speak for a lot of the premium members when i say, its not all about what you get for the money, its more about giving back to the community, before I went premium i had gotten a lot of advice and help from the forums, and once I could afford it i decided to stump up the cash and give a little back, plus once you join premium you will see a whole different side to web hosting

Exactly.
Also, the blue name and pretty badge is a plus. :)

I have not read though the entire thread yet but as you can see we are a paid member , 50 bucks a year.
This is a renewal for us. Honestly - the member forums are not really filled with traffic , not like the public ones. The way I think of that is, the only users that you will connect with is members in which you weed out all the Riff Raff and perhaps make a better connection with another provider or vendor etc...
The main reason for us is, we think it may give you a bit of a edge when it comes to marketing your services and such - it does make you stand out in hopes of gaining that trust from either another contact / vendor / fellow hosting provider or the main one is a possible client.
Yeah , you can think that as "no one" is going to think twice about that but you never know ...
This year we plan on LOTS of changes in our business model and thus we will be spending much more time here at WHT , it's all about learning the lay of the land , building connections , learning from others and in hopes of landing new clients - we still as with most are looking for that magic. It's tuff when your boot strapping your own venture.
But we have been doing this for over 10 years now so it is a added value to us .... but that is IMHO.
Hope that helps a little?
Cheers,
Dave

Well this is true to ... 4 bucks a month on marketing and learning from others / collaboration is a very small price to pay for the ROI - it is a needed element to any success of a business....

PCS-Chris 03-21-2010, 09:34 PM As others have said, it's more for giving something back to the community.
Plus you get a blue name, and a Tshirt!

Doesn't look like you get a tshirt anymore with the premium membership
jweeb 03-21-2010, 11:21 PM I will sign up if there's a shirt or some freebie. ;)
The Universes 03-23-2010, 03:12 AM Premium Members can also post an Advert every 6 days instead of 7.
You can also join our exciting discussions in the Premium only Forums ;-)
SoftWareRevue 03-23-2010, 10:20 AM Premium Members can also post an Advert every 6 days instead of 7...I can't imagine anyone who uses the advertising forums to sell NOT purchasing Premium membership for this reason alone.
