View Full Version : NetSol & domain transfer
alosito 12-02-2002, 10:27 PM I have heard some horror stories from people who wanted to tranfer their domain from Network Solutions to another registar or who just wanted to move their domain (registered with NetSol) from one hosting company to another. Is it still always a pain? I would like to move my domain to another hosting company, and I would really appreciate if somebody could tell me what is the best way to do it. I would also want to transfer my domain from NetSol to DirectNIC, although I guess I can live without it. My main concern is the downtime for my site in both cases. What would be the best way to minimize it?
webwired 12-02-2002, 10:52 PM I deal with that problem almost every day, customers wanting to move their domains to us, and Netsol not allowing them, even after replying to their confirmation emails. The best way that I have seen is, go ahead and submit the request to change registrars, then after it doesn't work, keep the reply email that you sent them. Call their toll-free number and do it over the phone. Alot of hassle, but that should work for you. As far as minimizing down time, just make sure not to make any moves until the registrar is straightened out.
alosito 12-02-2002, 11:19 PM Can donwtime be caused by transfering the domain from NetSol to another registrar like DirectNIC?
webwired 12-02-2002, 11:23 PM No.
ChrisTech 12-02-2002, 11:23 PM Just call network solutions' toll free number and do it over the phone. I used to work for them (call center) much easier to do it that way. That way they can answer any questions you have right away.
Toolz 12-02-2002, 11:27 PM Don't remind me of NetSol. Just make me scream. Tens and tens of emails. Going to online forms that just sbmit what you've inputted into an electonic bin...
They made me very very angry
I pity the poor buggers who still have to deal with them.
Avoid Network Solutions at all costs!!!
nameslave 12-03-2002, 12:57 AM alosito, you are basically talking about 2 things: changing host (i.e. modifying DNS) and transferring your domain name AWAY from Verisign.
With the newly implemented Account Manager, you should be able to login to your account (with the Account Number they sent you by e-mail and the password by postal mail) and modify the DNS fairly easily.
However, I would STRONGLY recommend you to do a registrar transfer as well (to whichever registrar except Register.com whose quality of service is almost as "good" as Verisign). But make sure you are not transferring OUT at a time near your expiry date.
Look at what one of my customer's showed me after dealing with Verisign on a transfer that took forever and then some.....I'm not a programmer but i do think he's on to something!
***********************************
Now I was onto something. After 20 test e-mails I found the offending code, as follows:
At VeriSign, we've been building online identities since the
Internet was introduced. We will continue to put this
experience and reliability to work for you.
Imbedded it this text is an HTML hard carriage return <BR> between the words "this" and the next word "experience" which, when viewed with your e-mail client looks like:
this
experience
but your filter sees only the text, ignoring the HTML code. It sees "thisexperience" which has the word "sex" imbedded in it !!!
Everyone who is filtering e-mail to delete Porn has the word "sex" as a filter word and these people will never see the "Authorization for Transfer" from VeriSign.
nameslave 12-03-2002, 12:24 PM >bok: Everyone who is filtering e-mail to delete Porn has the word "sex" as a filter word ...
Are there actually people who filter out the word SEX altogether? LOL!
WannaBaHost 12-04-2002, 07:55 AM I've been having one hell of a time trying to get my name away from them. I've sent numerous emails, made threats of going to BBBonline, changing the name servers, and still nothing. They want me to register a new nameserver with them (lmao.. That'll be the day..) and all of my other site are under my enom account.
Hopefully it will be resolved soon though. For those of you who don't know.. Stay away from them!
thewitt 12-04-2002, 09:28 AM Transfers away from NetSol can be easy or hard, and there does not appear to be any logic to it whatsoever.
We spend dozens of hours a month managing NetSol transfer attempts. We have some domains that have been intransfer limbo for months without resolution.
The only thing you really need to be concerned with is the time left in your registration period before you begin the transfer. Don't wait till the last minute to initiate the transfer - start early, and use a registrar who will not charge you for failed attempts, as NO ONE can guarantee that a NetSol transfer will go through the first time.

merconline 12-04-2002, 03:03 PM We only faced problems when customers wanted to change the DNS to us. Its a pain. After failed all methods we asked customers to transfer domains to us. After that everything was breeze :) and after few trials became the proven formula for various customers, Just Transfer it from NetworkSolutions. :)
markcw 12-05-2002, 01:02 PM I used www.dotregistrar.com to move a domain name www.staffsolutions.com that could not be moved for over a year. It was moved on the first try.
I also tried calling, faxes, emails to netsol and using stargate to transfer but nothing else worked except dotregistrar.com
kjedwards 12-09-2002, 09:00 PM Hi
I am going to be having a similar problem - I registered several domaing through my hosting company - Interhost only to find that they registered them via NetSol - I only found out because 2 days ago I received a final renewal notice through the post from NetSol.
The problem I have is that the hosting company is the admin contact for the domains. When I contacted the hosting company all I got was a polite - er renew with NetSol. I don't really want to pay over $30 per domain per year - rediculas
I would love to move these domains and note the comments regarding phoning NetSol but I am based in the UK
Any advise please
Thanks
Kevin
