View Full Version : Are you going for a hosting company soon, please help me!
username 04-19-2001, 10:09 AM hey,
My name is Brian and i'm new at webhostingtalk. I'm 15 years old, i need HELP. I'm building a site for teens. I don't have any idea of making money out of it. I just made this site cause i love internet, and it was my dream to create a site.the problem is that my site cannot afford a Free host.Because it needs quite big space, big bandwidth, and u know, " You pay what you get" .I can't afford to pay any host. I've got many bad experiences with free host and i don't wanna get with them again. I don't have many $ cause here, in Mauritius, we are not quite rich.My dad don't wanna give me a CENt cause he doesn't trust internet. I do.I was trying for a few months, to save money, in vain!. I didn't get enough...... to pay for a host! I would ask you IF YOU ARE GOING FOR A HOST SOON, that we could make something, together. Cause many host owners, don't wanna make an offer to me. i mean give me a the service for free  . I thought that telling them that if i told another person to go with them, they could give me their service... for free..... and it could be u. understand
Making as if i told u to go on with them, thus making the guy giving me the service. ;) .
Please don't delete this thread. I just need help!,
my site is up and just waiting for a host. with

Chicken 04-19-2001, 07:07 PM Thread won't be deleted, but you'll have to use your other user name, parano15.
asking quite a lot for a free account. other than that, due to the internet, its impossible to verify your identity or see if you are genuine. if a host gives you a free account, then everyone should be qualified for a free account. theres a host in the advertising forum that is offering a free account on their alabanza server. try emailing them to see if you qualified or not. thats a start.
DigitalXWeb 04-19-2001, 11:07 PM Quick question :
Why in this post you state you cant afford to pay for hosting and you want someone to donate you a free site and in a previous post you have a list of hosts and ask which one is better?? There are plenty of free hosting services out there I am sure one of them can provide you with the features you are looking for.
lenix 04-20-2001, 12:19 AM im quite young myself and im sure that we could work out something to get you up & running. i know what its like ;) just contact me
parano15 04-20-2001, 07:23 AM Chicken, what's your problem with me?,
i didn't do nothing wrong. U know y i registered for a new username cause, when i try to acess mate, they told me to register. I thought that by redesigning webhostingtalk , you deleted all the members.
And u know what!, i don't worry what people of sitepointforums thinks of me!. i really DON'T CARE,
so if you are trying to change my way of thinking or my way of posting,
just delete my account!,
At first, i thought of going in a forum, where i could get help!,
and believe, i know "MANY" other forums, that are MUCH friendly, and understand my situation. Is there any other forum, that Chicken is not a moderator ????

No, when you buy a vBulletin License it comes with Chicken as a moderator. Its not too bad, but you have to keep lots of feed handy, and you can't start any polls about which is better: KFC or Popeyes :).

OMG!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!! That was a good one uuallan.. :D
Parano15, to me it seems like you're the one having a problem, all chicknen told you was to use your other name! So chill out little guy..
parano15 04-20-2001, 08:16 AM how come, is he the owner of vbulletin or what?
klisis 04-20-2001, 08:20 AM I don't see why he is upset with Chicken's statement.
Did he bash you? No.
Did he offense you? I don't think so.

No, its some sort of bug in the code, that the programmers have not been able to get fixed yet. Basically, whenever you do a fresh install of vBulletin it creates a MySQL entry for Chicken, and it assigns it permissions so that not even the MySQL administrator can remove him.
In fact the vBulletin support board has the infamous "Chicken" thread on the topic:

Brian, is there *any* reason you aren't using your other user name to post? You asked essentially the same question, but started a new thread (with a new user name even). It is *this* that got some members at Sitepoint a bit annoyed with you.
Please use *one* user name.
Please discuss things on *one* thread.
Thread locked.
Username: 'username' deleted.
Please use your username 'parano15' instead.
See this thread to continue the discussion:

Duster 04-20-2001, 10:06 AM Brian,
I read those comments and don't see any justification for you being cross. You can be a petulant child and overreact, though it speaks poorly of you, especially since you are trying to get commercial services for free. I know I would avoid bratty children and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that way.
You were asked a simple question and the error of your ways (duplicate discussions) was pointed out. Your over reaction is unwarranted.
This is not a criticism of you being immature. At your age, it's not surprising. Just don't try to defend it. We see it even if you don't.

That is too funny, it just *seems* like that.
Brian -
Note the word, 'please' in the post. I understand that you thought the other user name was deleted (never hurts to try your current one, just in case). I hope that you understand why we ask users to post with one user name, and only once about the same topic (one thread). It just gucks up the forums otherwise. Sorry you misunderstood the post...
