I am a newbie for WHMCS. I have not been able to figure the following, any help is appreciated.

How can we associate/ charge clients with "transaction fees" for payments made vide specific pageways?

So, if the customer places an order of $100 and decides to pay online; he selects a particular Card processor.

Upon that, immediately, the order total should be able to reflect any transaction fees (like 5%) and markup the total to $102 (for a 2% fee).

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Well this isn't standard practice with doing business online, the convenience of being able to accept credit cards is the fees itself and we are expected to eat them.

As far as i know, there is no way to do per gateway markup. If you want to do a General markup of a few percent then you could do it using the tax setup in WHMCS

You could use the TAX setup to charge for the fee. I used [Configuration -> Tax Rules -> Name for service level 1 rule could be "Credit Card Service Fee"]. The world Credit Card Service word will appear on the ordering form as fees. Hope this helps.

Although you could markup your fees using a tax (as shown above), why not just markup the actual price instead? If the price your selling at is $1.00 a month, Paypal's fee might be 30 cents, so make the price per month $1.30. Not only does this cover the fees, but also, it will avoid unwanted fees that are tacked on during checkout, which is always a turn off for potential customers.

I was thinking about the same, however, I do allow customers to pay for using Mail-in Checks. I would definitely not like to pursue the added burden to these customers.

Well then it looks like your either going to have to use the tax option, or absorb the fees yourself.

Thanks. I am currently trying this out. But, I have not been able to set this setting at the Gateway Level. I am also allowing customers to pay for the services using traditional means like Bank transfer / Mail-in checks. I do not wish to push the burden to these payers.

I totally agree to this. However, I am currently under contract with a decently high fee. So, I would like to defer the burden partially (not completely) to the customers.

I am shopping for different Gateways, but till then, I will be using this gateway.

Thanks

I would say, why not state the markup prices on the website, and offer discounts if they use other payment methods?

I'm pretty sure most payment gateways contracts say that you are specifically NOT allowed to pass along those fees to your customer.

--TinaI agree.

I am pretty sure that both Visa and Mastercard have it in their terms and conditions that you are not allowed to pass the fees on to the end user. I believe that Paypal also have a clause that disallows it.

Yes what Tina and Paul said. I remember just reading this in another thread. It may be in the Paypal agreement too. You aren't allowed to pass these along to the customer. So you may just want to increase your costs accordingly and maybe look at some way to apply a discount to cash/check/bank transfer payment.
