I need to establish an email server.What is needed? .I'm planning to run it on a dedicated server from one of the providers of dedicated hosting.Beside an email server software, what else is needed? . I hope anyone can help.

Get sendmail or qmail and install it. Read the documentation or pick up a book like Craig Hunt's Linux Library Sendmail Administration.

Once you get it running everything is easy until it breaks. Depending on your operating system Sendmail might be automatically installed so you just have to configure it.
