View Full Version : Does WHM have an Auto Notification System?

I recently got a new server that uses WHM/Cpanel. On a previous WHM server, I would receive daily e-mails regarding services failures/restarts and general server status. I'd also receive e-mails when accounts were created or deleted which is handy especially with resellers.

My new server is not setup like that. I'm pretty sure these e-mails were coming from the WHM, but my new provider doesn't know anything about this.

Is WHM capable of this? If so, how do I turn this on?

Thanks.

Hello,
YES.. that is a WHM feature.

In the edit setup link, look to make sure your email address is listed in there. This will send you server notices of failed email, mysql, apache, etc.

I think that is where the other notices are sent to as well. they look for that addrerss there. ( don't quote me on that, but I have 5 servers and it is the only place my email address is listed)

Test it by opening a new account 15 minutes after you set that address, and see if you get the new account information in an email. You should.

If not, ask your provider to find out why it is not working. Because it should. And you should get your nightly email on your system report.

If you have resellers, it will inform you of when hosting plans are upgraded or opened or deleted.. and I think a few other things.

good luck with it. It should work if your address is in there to receive the emails. If not... it is an easy fix for the techs.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the info. Glad to know I wasn't imagining this...

But I think I still have a problem ... I *do* have my e-mail address entered in the e-mail contact under Edit Setup. I'm getting no mail notices though. :(

I just double checked to make sure my e-mail address was typed correctly and it is. I resaved the settings and created a new account. No e-mail... :(

Do you have any idea of what could be wrong?

I was just told by another WHM user that e-mail notification has been down for the last 5 days...

Can any of you verify that? Wouldn't that be server to server anyway...not as a whole group...

I've only had my new server since Saturday so I'd fall into the 5 days... new problem with latest version of WHM, perhaps?

I was just told by my provider that the e-mail address must reside on the server. I put in a server e-mail address and created a new account and got notified. :)

Here's the catch though, I KNOW that I was getting notified via an off network e-mail address before and prefer to use an e-mail address that's not tied to the server in anyway.

This has to be a recent bug??? Anyone else experiencing this?

Thats nonsense, I have been using an off network email address with WHM the whole time and I'm getting every single notification within a minute or two.

I wouldn't use an address on the box for this in any event.

I haven't experienced any occasion where the notifications have been late or not delivered. Not one.

Cheers.

felix220 I agree completely with you. It is nonsense. And in a perfect world everything would work 100% of the time as advertised. But alas, we do not live in a perfect world...which brings me back to my problem. This is a legimate problem for me...thus this posting. :)

Currently, I can receive e-mail notifications if the e-mail address resides on the server. I do not receive e-mail from off server addresses. I've tried a couple different ones to rule out problems with the off-network e-mail addresses.

Obviously there's a problem here and I'd like to know if any one out there (a dark orb rep perhaps?) can help me!! :(

have you gone to the VDI forums yet?.... there is a CPanel forum there..

http://www.vdi.net/forums/

don't bother emailing cpanel/darkorb, their support email seems to be switched off, probably so they can get peace to finish CPanel4...

Hi,
No.. my servers are still sending notifications.

I think it is more of a server specific problem, but it does seem to happen in several servers from what I have heard.
One of mine stopped a while back, and the vdi techs got in and had it running again the next day, so it is a fixable problem.

Just tell support, and explain the problem like you did in this forum. Also tell them that yes... your email address is listed... because they will want to know that to.
