lets say I use 10gb a month, what kind of connection would I need? mostly hosting html/php/mysql and images...

I am talking about a connection that I could afford and is fast enough... Is there SDSL connections or maybe even ADSL connections fast enough for that?

Hosting on dsl is not such a good idea unless you have no need for a decent uptime. If you only need php mysql, etc. it would probably be better to just get a hosting account from a reputable web hosting provider. It will be much cheaper than a DSL line, and will probably have better uptime.

Now, if this is something that you're just going to be toying around with (for fun or learning, etc.), then sure go for a DSL line. I've seen people host sites on a 256k up/down DSL line with no major problems (except for 4 hour outages here and there ;)).

I say go for it.

Save yourself some money :)

If you have a static IP, then great, point your domain to that ip and setup a webserver on your dsl line.

if no static ip, then use one of those dyndns things or something and point your domain there

I personally have a 80k/sec upload on my dsl, so I think it would be fine.

I dunno, a long time ago I used to have a home server (for personal use), I have ADSL and it ran good, good uptime and it ran well, as well as a homeserver will run anyways. ;)

If you want more info you might want to check out www.dslwebserver.com

hmm, ok thanks all, I will look into it I guess :D check out some prices. I currently live in the Netherlands (I am half-dutch and half american), any recomendations?

is 30 kb/sec (bytes) fast enough for a small-medium site? lets say no more than 3 visitors at a time

If the 3 are making downloads no :(

If it's only webpages... than you can have like 5 visitors it no problem...

If you have a computer to host it with and your DSL provider ALLOWS you to host servers, then go for it.
