There is some problem with the setting up of a newly registered domain name of mine at DreamHost. But it's REALLY quiet over there: their discussion forum only has 2 posts in the past 48 hours (of which 1 was posted by me) and the support has not get back to me in more than 12 hours (although their promised time-frame is 24 hours or less).

Use the search and you'll find some recent posts on DreamHost. Most of it not good I seem to remember.

nameslave,

A couple of things, and by no means am I defending DreamHost; firstly, its only been 12 hours. DreamHost is a HUGE company with a HUGE customer base. Thats no excuse for poor support, but give them 24 hours. Secondly, its the weekend, and more importantly Thanksgiving weekend. That says a lot. Once again not defending them, but its a good reason to give them the full 24 hours. Their discussion board has ALWAYS been quiet, even when I was with them three or so years ago. Best of luck to you though, let us know how it all works out.

Two posts in 48 hours huh? My support forum on average gets maybe 1 a month from a customer. DreamHost may provide most of its support via email, and since their forum wasn't being used much, they probably don't check it on a daily basis.

Have you tried emailing DreamHost?

Wow, and someone was poking at us for not responding within 4 hours on Sunday afternoon. :D

Thanks for all your responses. I have been with DreamHost for quite a while and like their services. It's just that they are USUALLY slower on the weekend.

And thanks Matt (TheMMIz). Yes, DreamHost does have a lot of support requests. Mine (first posted some 16 hours ago) is now #11 out of 105 still open tickets.

UPDATE: I finally got the test e-mail I sent to myself after more than 28 hours; and the domain name is also accessible on the web. Happy ending.

Perhaps I'm too used to having fast and reliable services from DreamHost that a rare slowness like this seems unbearable. :D

And all because of a few dead turkeys. :D

Oh yes, I forgot it's the Thanksgiving long weekend in the States. I'm in Canada and we have our Thanksgiving back in October :-)
