http://members.freewebs.com/

whats your opinion on this ? no banners, no popups, only condition is that a text link be placed at bottom of home page linking to their site

i think its great for newbies to try some pure html sites....it has a web editor also for easy and quick editing

Believe it or not they are pretty good. The only drawback is, that on their free package, there is no FTP uploading. You have to browse for and then and upload each and every single file, may it be your html or graphic files, one by one individually. It works for a small website, but if it is a bigger one, it becomes tedious.

It is clear that they are hoping for people who started off free to eventually upgrade. I didn't do that, as my needs are met by their free offer.

I am hosting one single webpage there, it is more or less a one page publication of a brochure for a Holiday Inn Hotel.

Never contacted Freewebs.com customer service, because there never was a problem. The brochure is uploaded and it has been there ever since! Setup of the free hosting account was simple and confirmation email with login and password was forwarded to my email account immediately after signing up.

That's all I have for you, hope it helped.

The catch is:

How much bandwidth do I get?
We offer up to 500MB of user bandwidth per month for all non-premium users, so long as it is being used in a proper manner. Premium Users are entitled to 1000Mb of bandwidth per month. Users can purchase an unlimited amount of extra bandwidth at the price of $9 per additional 1000Mb per month. Please note that FreeWebs cannot be used to remotely host files. This will be automatically detected and prevented.

500mb bandwidth is nothing. $9 / gig is very expencive.

My host gives 5G for $9
