Not knowing a lot about video cards, yesterday I got a 128MB nVidia GeForce4 MX440G card with my gateway which should ship sometime this week hopefully. I heard someone say this is bad for gamers, the MX. My question is, for anyone who thinks they can help me, would this "cheaper" 128MB card be better off than one of nVidia's better 64MB cards?

I do plan on playing many new release graphic intense games..

I would appreciate any help any can give, thanks.
Dan

To be honest, you would've been better off getting a GeForce3 Ti200 - 128mb card. Its faster than any GF4 MX card -- even at 128mb.

I have a GF3 Ti200 128mb card by Leadtek.

I've had no problems with it. Works great, and I play graphic intensive games all the time on it (but I also have a Athlon XP 1800 / 1gb ram on my machine as well).

The GeForce 4MX isn't really bad for gaming, however it's not the best card out there either. I want one of those ATI Radeon 9700 pro, those thing's look like a gamer's dream.

If you are going to play the newer games like Unreal Tournament 2003 and the new Doom coming out..you really cannot have less than a GeForce 4 Ti4200 64 or 128mb.

While the GF #'s are still very good gaming cards in their own right, you are better off spending just a little more their generation 4 cards, as things are only going to get even more processor intensive.

A GeForce 4 MX is really nothing but a GeForce 2 and a few addons.

I have a GE-FORCE MX 420 64 mb card and it plays any game out there just fine. If I spent more money on a better card, I wouldn't be able to tell the least bit of difference.

<oops nevermind>

Thanks for the replies. All I really want to do is to play a game like warcraft 3 without the game lagging (this is the case with my current 32MB nVidia card which I'm using right now, forgot which model it is). The other specs for the computer should be good; p4 2.4ghz, and I'm upgrading the ram to 512 once I get it.

I currently have G4 MX 440 - you can play any game you want right now on this card. It actually has a faster clock speed than the Ti 4200. The only real difference is it doesn't have the lastest and greatest technology on the board like Vertex shading..etc. No game at the moment even uses any of the newest technologies on the G4 Ti boards. The price you paid for the card was well worth the performance you will get our of it IMO.

The MX is just a boosted GFORCE-2 get the TI version of it.
