View Full Version : Quick info please Blinx.net
paranoid_web 12-01-2002, 08:41 AM I found this host, and god do they offer a great package..
Sooo??? Judges and Juries? What's the verdict? What say ye of this host???
PS
Have you guys heard of OCS Solutions?
viperXXX 12-01-2002, 11:28 AM Well all I can say is that these guys provided me more services then my old webhost (and that for like 10x less in pricing), I've sent lots of support emails and they've been answered in 5 minutes!!! I've been with them for 2 months and they are extremely stable. I'll suggest you try them out, their pricing is so low you have nothing to lose.

Neo3Net 12-01-2002, 12:09 PM Hmmm, I am not pointing any fingers however these posts sound very strange. It shows that you signed up just to post these posts. And you only have 1 post. hmmmm
davidb 12-01-2002, 12:10 PM heh, I thoughtn the same thing
Toolz 12-01-2002, 12:26 PM Just what I was thinking too.
Can any of the WHT sleuths to the whois and everything and dig up more info?
Looking at the site I can only say the following looks strange:
Add-ons Setup Monthly
Anonymous FTP $5.00 $5.00
SSL support $5.00 $5.00
Bundle anon FTP/SSL $8.00 $8.00
What's the logic behind those charges?
davidb 12-01-2002, 12:50 PM I belive it would be to accomidate the dedicated IP needed.

That's what I suspected too however most hosts are offerning that for $0-2.
And if that's shared SSL they're offering then you don't even need the IP as you'd be using theirs?
If they were getting you an SSL cert for your site then they'd want more than $60 and I guess they'd want it in advance rather than per month???
fantasmic0 12-01-2002, 01:20 PM :cartman: well form where I am , blinx.net ain't coming up anyway :o
TheSpidre 12-01-2002, 01:36 PM these guys have only 1 post and are only saying that blinx.net has great offers, a little bit suspicious isn't it :)
Reality Hosting 12-01-2002, 02:17 PM Something smells rotten in the state of Denmark...
viperXXX 12-01-2002, 03:44 PM Well I did signup today, but thats because I was just reading before without registering (when I saw a post about blinx.net I descided to register). Anyway you can think whatever you want, I was just sharing my experience with them.
BTW my site is gsmworldsource.com if you want to do tests.
RajanUrs 12-01-2002, 04:17 PM Its a five year old company.......and it has no debts http://www.blinx.net/aboutus.php
Sounds more like some techies doing some business holding some other full time jobs. They would have perhaps picked up some servers from some company who has upgraded their equipment and discarded the old ones for a throw away price.
Anything is possible: I got a email once from some person in Europe. He offered to ship me 400 nos PII systems for 50$ each (not inclusive of shipping) And someone else offered Athalon chips for 6$ each if purchased in bulk quantities of hundred and above.
davidb 12-01-2002, 04:30 PM "Blinx Networks Enreg. was founded in 1998 to provide quality and inexpensive hosting solutions worldwide. "
then
"Also in September 2002 we discountinued our internet access division (except for our old customers) because it wasn't profitable and for the same reasons co-location. Here we are today providing what we originally wanted to offer, only hosting solutions which we were providing for already 2 years."
Wouldnt that be 4 years in 2002 if started in 98?
RajanUrs 12-01-2002, 04:35 PM Wouldnt that be 4 years in 2002 if started in 98?
It can be four plus 11 months if it started in Jan 1st 98 :stickout:
davidb 12-01-2002, 04:43 PM Sorry, I wasent refering to your comment, the part where in 2002 they said that they had been hostin since 98 and they they decided to focus on hosting which they have been doing for 2 years, but if said in 2002 it should be 4
Pilgrim 12-01-2002, 04:57 PM Never mind, I'm just dumb :(

GoTek-JP 12-01-2002, 06:29 PM Hi RajanUrs,
Yes indeed I'm a tech, I'm currently taking computer science classes, not full time and when I'm taking my classes I always check my email just like I do in my office. Our pricing is totally down to earth, I'm making some good profit! how ? pay me a few thousand and I'll tell you.
Our servers are P4 1.7Ghz, 512Megs of ram, 60 gigs HD .. no P3's in there.
Regards,
..Jean-Pierre Abboud

RajanUrs 12-01-2002, 07:32 PM Jean-Pierre Abboud, but who told you we are dissecting you ? You felt the voodoo doll pin pricks in your class room while we were poking around in your website ? :stickout:

James K 12-01-2002, 08:02 PM jpabboud, are your prices in USD or CAN?
GoTek-JP 12-01-2002, 08:07 PM Hi James,
Pricing is in USD.. I'll specify it on the website, once I finish programming that new support desk :).

Toolz 12-01-2002, 10:33 PM jpabbound: So could you tell us more about the strange pricings for Anon FTP and SSL addons? Is the SSL shared?
GoTek-JP 12-01-2002, 10:53 PM Hi Toolz,
Pricing is exactly like some said, its for the dedicated IP that we have to setup in order to provide both SSL and Anonymous FTP. We don't provide shared SSL, the customer has to buy an SSL cert. Remember we have to order IP's when needed and our provider charges us a fee per ip. I'm very flexible with pricing, just e-mail me and I'll find something that can make both of us happy :).

paranoid_web 12-02-2002, 01:43 AM hi.
well, one thing's for sure. All I want is NOT TO MAKE A MISTAKE AGAIN.. hence the name BTW. I wanted to know real facts about Blinx.. that's all.
