I've noticed the above seem to be linked to how many posts you've entered. There's no option to edit it is that correct?

Sorry I can't find anything on this and you'll appreciate it's difficult to perform a search on it.

Are the terms and the corresponding numbers of posts documented anywhere?

no, its just based on post count

only an admin would be able to tell you how many points =what rank

Thanks Phrozen.

Actually managed to find the thread (and your earlier contribution) here

http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91762&highlight=newbie

With this system doesn't it mean that Newbies rush to post 30 trivial replies to lose the tag quickly?

Just an observation: It seems like a lot of those members who have posts in the hundreds generally make a much better contribution to those with levels in the 1000s??? (exceptions of course)

If you spend your freetime trying to help people on these forums whenever you see a question you can either answer or research the answer, you'll get a custom tag in no time.

Helping other people here is the fastest way to learn things.

That's good because after 250 the tags seem to get a bit tacky. We're not very evangelical around here! ;)

The best thing to do is just not worry about the post count. If you stay around, add to the community at large and 'do your time' the post count rises all by itself.

I'll agree a fair percent of the 1000+ club have been posting rubbish lately but you'll generally find those offenders have only been signed up since 2002 sometime.

If you will use your spare time onWHT you will get custom titles. If you are newbie it means you don't have much spare time but if you have custom title it means you don't have any work. What do you want?

Right! I think there is a correlation there...

...slowly but surely working my way towards thirty!

[BTW you were one of the "exceptions" Greg ;) ]

Heck. I just try to read.

I think someone keeps messing with my post count. I don't really think that could have happened all by itself.

Just be a part of the community and have fun.

I'll be an evangelist only if it doesn't imperil my nonprophet status. :)

That said...helping others really is one of the best ways to learn. If nothing else, it lets you know that you know something well enough to teach it to another person.

I don't think I will be able to get my custom title untill the end of next year, if I keep posting as slow as I am....

Other thing is, webhosts get chance to post much more stuff than others becuase they are offering thier services to almost every 3rd person see, asking for a webhost.

The word "evangelist" is tacky? When did religion become a forbidden subject in public?

I think it's the fact that, because of American media and associated folderol within the evangelist ranks, most people mentally append the suffix "tele-", and think of frightening people with 100% virgin polyester suits and accompanying helpmates who are singlehandedly supporting a cosmetics company.

And thus is a connotation of a word spun out...

Don't put too much value in a custom title, I'm still waiting for my food :D
