Greetings,

I am located in the U.S. and was wondering about the propriety of choosing with a foreign host. If their servers are located in another country, would that slow performance for the people in the U.S. visiting my sites?

I was thinking of going with Myacen, which I gather is located in Australia. Can anyone recommend another multiple domain host? I am looking to host 3-4 sites (not resell) and do not want major headaches, i.e. a "solid" host.

Very truly yours,

Nick

You won't have many problems as long as the servers are in US...or other main countries.

we have over 1/3 clients come from other countries. US, CA, SG, Italy, Isreal...

Usually, clients tend to choose USA based hosting services
1.) cheap pricing
2.) good connectivity
3.) english based
4.) usually good service comparing to other countries :)

Depends how good connectivity that country has. I would suggest UK for alternative hosting to USA, but the bandwidth fees are way too high.... Server HW tends to be a bit more priceley as well..

yes it will make a difference even if it is very slight....the submarine cables and satellite access to a particular country also have bandwidth limitations. there may not be much difference between canade and usa but there will certainly be between egypt and hawaii (yup there are many servers located in remote islands in the pacific)

in India untill recently there was only a single submarine cable access and it was controlled by a govt. telecom company......now ofcourse it is deregulated and there are several private players....yet to see someone offer a low cost always on dsl:bawling:

Well depends on which continent but a country like CANADA is so close to the US, for example montreal is connected directly to Boston and New york and latency is just minimal.. so US customers will have an access to a Canadian link just as fast as an american link. But if you're talking of europe, asia then thats a big latency (no matter what connection they have).

Nick you can do a search on these forum there is many multi-domain hosts and or Reseller hosts.

SplashHost.com are based in UK but there servers are based in the United States etc.

Search and you will find ;)

Kind regards

Well and it depends where most of your clients are located. If it's Pacific, then you sure do not need servers to be located in Canada... :)

If you plan to sell hosting to Australia, China, Japan etc etc, then you should consider some pacific hosting company (or atleast USA West Coast.... for Australia for example)

The only advantage I can see to going with an out of the country host is that if you have to do a chargeback dispute, your bank is more likely to side with you than a foreigner.

Yah. I've never had any problems doing a chargeback to a US based company.

Usually when I request a chargeback and I tell my bank that the company involved is in the US they ask no further but just give me my money back.
