We're writing our own... There's no solution that I like enough to simply install and use, especially since I want to automate new hosting account setup and tie it into our CMS. Almost finished, but I never thought it could be so complex, even for a basic system!

We use HSphere and they have bundled the OScart into there system software. Our clients love it with one click they have the whole cart up and running with a MySQL database driving it. We offer our clients the cart with the $9.95 and higher plans, but only offer support on the $19.95 plans. Most of our clients that use it have found it quite easy to use and add products. I would say the program is a 8 or 9 the only down fall is that some of the look and feel customization has to be done with the little PHP knowledge. But that is where you can also offer you services to fully customize the cart for them and make a little extra money. The great thing about the cart is:
1) It is free and open source.
2) Since it is open source there are many plug-ins and a great community to get answers to all your questions.
Check it out: www.oscommerce.com (http://www.oscommerce.com)

Miva is a joke for $600 a pop.
I use X-Cart and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recomend it.
You can get shipping quotes for ALL the major shippers (Fedex, UPS, USPS, Airborne, DHL. . .) with out having to have an account with them, it support an ungodly amount of gateways, it's SUPER stable, and it's good ol' php for those that know it. It's $145, but free upgrades for life.

Hello there,
I may be totally wrong about this ( Ihope ), but I've heard there's an awful lot of trouble with X-cart concerning gateways. Pay Pal and 2checkout are a just a couple I have found not to be all that compabitible with X-cart. In fact I think for PayPal you need to have some sort of Perl related module installed for it to work properly and some people can't get this on their server. Plus for 2checkout and other gateways, there's the problem with redirecting the customer after the transaction. :) Sorry, but in addition I've heard lots of problems with the https and if that's not all enough most people on the X-cart forums denounce the smarty templates and would love to do away with them.
Believe me, I've been trying to find a reason to buy this script because there's not much better out there. In the end I finally settled with oscommerce. Yes, X-cart has some nice customization features, but get this....I've heard with the new X-cart coming out shortly it will have better template facilities, but the upgrading will be hell. So I think I'll wait until some issues get cleared up with X-cart.
Perhaps others out there will differ. Still after 50 some views over at X-cart forums I still have yet to get some answers on exactly which payment gateways this thing actually works with.
Hmmm.
Anyway, just my warning..I mean 2 cents about X-cart. ;)
Ricoche
P.S. If it improves I'll buy it as I do have my eye on it, but not in the shape it's in now. Sorry.
