Seems useful, thanks - any possibility of conflict with future official .pkg's? :dunce:

If so, you can of course uninstall this one :)
Or I will put up a fix for it :D

Why take a chance? Utilize a widely known & trusted resource: download the same packages, created by one of the best Cobalt support techs available anywhere, from SolarSpeed.net. Register and look in the free downloads section.

The same functionality has been available there for months.

My 0.02,

Brandon

Why take a chance?
--> Why bitch?

I've put quite some time into making this, and making it available for you guys... I furthermore spent a lot of time testing it on my units ORION and PLUTO making sure everything was okay.
I WOULD NOT EVER release something if I think it's not safe...

Just MY $.02

NOTE: Sorry for my tone of 'voice'. But this I really hate.. I contribute something free of charge, and I get this. If you don't want it, fine: dont take it!

Please don't tell Pluto, we don't want him to be upset! :D

Who said anything about you?

bwho asked if anyone had tried it; i.e. did it work? I simply pointed him to an alternate source for the same functionality. I didn't make any comments about your offering. Obviously it upsets you that I pointed out Solarspeed...why? Perhaps once you've contributed as much to the Cobalt community as Michael (Solarspeed), you can enjoy the same level of trust. In the interim, since you brought it up, don't expect to pop up out of the blue (post count = 12) with free software and have folks install it without asking a few prudent questions first. Sheesh.

Personally, I don't see the point (read:value) in rolling a set of 'free' packages when they already existed for free elsewhere. Why not invest the time and energy in creating something new?

Lose the tone, buddy. I could understand if someone said, "don't trust this guy, he'll ruin your box"....but none of my comments said squat about your offering.

I get your point... But why must people always post stuff like that other than "thank you" or so...

It's just nice to hear... That's all I had to say

Could not agree more.

You have to earn some trust first.

By using such a tone you won't make a lot of friends :-)

When you're a regular visitor here, you'll notice a trend: things are never good enough, or cheap enough.

Offer the best deal money can buy, and you can be sure people will show up and complain about it, asking for even more, lower prices and so on.

Now we have proof that even free isn't good enough.

I'm damn sure that if you got a bundle of cash coming with this package, people would still manage to come up with nonsense. Geez...

Yeah I am really sorry to hear that.
Well... I did my best...
That's all I can say...

Yeah, and I'll work on *MY* attitude....

I think the point is that anything you download could be:

1) Robust and sound for everybody.
2) Bad for a few unusually configured systems (not the supplier's fault).
3) Careless or ill-advised and bad for most.
4) Deliberately malicious.

How do you tell? You can't! At least not until a few people have tried it (or pulled the code apart bit-by-bit).

Unless there is a history of people trying the download and reporting on the results, you just have to make a value-judgement based on whether or not you trust the supplier. If the supplier is well-known, with a long history, it's easy. If it's a new supplier, you excercise caution.

I don't see anything wrong with urging caution and pointing-out another known and trusted supplier of similar stuff.

That's not to say that the new supplier is in any way suspicious. He/she may have worked very hard on the download and be very skilled.

I've got a LONG posting history on other forums, but I'm new here, so there will be ppl who think I'm a bit dodgy because of my low post count.

Trust is won over a period of time. Keep making packages. If they are any good, you will eventually win trust and respect.
