I registered yet another domain name with GoDaddy yesterday. Even though a full record shows up right on GoDaddy's own whois and the registry record clearly said it is with GoDaddy with the correct DNS info, other whois's (incl. Verisign, Register.com, OpenSRS/Tucows) are not picking up after more than 18 hours, showing e.g. an error return of "No match for "XXXX***********" in the registrar database". As a result, this newly registered domain name is not yet visible on the Web.
It is NOT always like that. It has nothing to do with propogation or hosting, and the ISPs' inability to update their nameserver records is probably resulting from slow registrar updating of either this particular domain name or all domain names within a certain time-frame.

Can't help you out unless we have a name? I would go to www.internic.net and see if it shows up. If it shows up their it is the other registrars problems, if not, then yes there may be a problem with GoDaddy.

You probably CAN'T help me out even with the name, unless you work for GoDaddy. :D

"... and the registry record clearly said it is with GoDaddy with the correct DNS info ..."
Thanks anyway.

It takes 8-48 and as long as a week for whois records to be updated, depending on the registrar.
Some registrars only update from the main database once a day. Some every other day. One I delt with in the past only did it once a week (these are usually the super cheap ones).
Just because one registrar says a name is avail doesn't always mean it is. And yes, I missed out on a domain name this way.
And if we have your domain name, we can do a whois on it, and see if you set the dns properly, etc. Spelling mistakes happen (just look at my post :D )

I noticed that Godaddy is lately very slow also. The other day, I changed the name servers for a site. It took them almost 4 days for the new name servers to take effect.

GoDaddy updates their own whois database/interface real-time; it's the frequency/slowness that they are updating that with the registry or the outside world that concerns me.

It is NOT available. But when you do a whois, the return is "No match for xxxxxxx/com in the registrar database".

I have checked with quite a number of whois's:
" ... the registry record clearly said it is with GoDaddy with the correct DNS info, other whois's (incl. Verisign, Register.com, OpenSRS/Tucows) are not picking up ..."
UPDATE: the name is finally showing up in all major whois's after more than 24 hours. Unlike back in the Stone Age, this kind of slowness has only happened to me twice in the past 18 months. I guess I'm just not used to it any more since almost all of my newly registered domains are visible in about 12 hours or less. It's like once you're on DSL/Cable, there's no turning back to dial-up, you know.
