Hi,

Just curious for you who provide reseller services how you do anonymousity ?

IE, won't their users see <your servers name on your servers domain> when they log in to FTP or anything?

Is it smartest to buy a domain name not related your company? IE (reliableservers.net or something) and have your dns done through that or what?

Well on the FTP part, you can hide it if you wish. So that isn't hard at all.

On the nameservers, you can give them private nameservers to hide yourself.

well, some things we do:
- give out 2 dedicated ips to be used for nameservers, so each reseller uses ns1.hisdomain.com and ns2.hisdomain.com
- all ftp server logins are configured as virtualhosts, so when you log into the ftp server it says ftp.hisdomain.com
- we also changed some things in certain cpanel skins so that the resellers' customers dont see package name:'username_package' but rather just 'package', ie 'gold' instead of 'hisdomain_gold'.

those are pretty good starting points.

good luck with your venture,
paul

also, you need to choose, it is either 'anonymity' or 'animosity' =]

could always get a colo/dedicated and not really have to worry about it
assuming this is in your budget

I have 2 dedicated servers and want to provide reseller services.
I was just curious how to make it totally anonymous on their end (so his clients can't tell he's a reseller on my servers)

Thanks for the tips people.

For hostname do not use your companys domain, as it will be included in all email headers.

If you want to provide shared anonymous SSL for your customers it will be easier with anonymous hostname.

Reseller anonymousity = An angry mouse using a reseller account that's down all the time. :stickout:
