View Full Version : Need recommendations for ads for my site

I've got a fairly successful site with decent traffic that I'm having a really hard time placing ads on. The content is a little risque (no porn or illegal content) and the site has been rejected by Valueclick, Google, and Adbrite so those are not options.

I am currently using Adonion but the ad inventories are pitiful and I have had countless problems with scammy ads popping out of frames, etc. They keep blaming it on network partners but the problem never goes away and has gotten worse.

I've also tried self-publishing but the site just isn't big enough to get anything decent from that.

I'd like to take advantage of the decent traffic and get decent ads on my site. Can anyone recommend an ad co. that doesn't serve up junk and scam ads? I've got slots for 300x250, 768x90, 160x600, and full page.

You can try Commission Junction, Linkshare (Affiliate Networks),Bidvertiser or Kontera (ad-networks). These sites usually let you choose the category your site is based in (say "Internet") and publishes contextual ads (ads related to Internet Eg. web hosting) on your site.

Cheers,
K

Do they have strict standards as far as content? Like I said, no porn or illegal content but it's not exactly Disney.

Not Bidvertiser and Kontera as far as I know but CJ and Linkshare follow stricter standards. But I suggest you give it a try, you never know your site might get accepted afterall

Will definitely try them out - thanks for the suggestion.

I'm open to more...I haven't found one that sticks yet and it'd be nice to have a "backup plan".

You could advertise privately on your website. Add a banner which says something like "You Advert could be here, Click for further information"

Just a thought!

You can do that as well but signing up as a publisher would give a constant flow of ads. If you do it on your own, you might not be able to set the correct pricing. If you select an ad network, they will take care of the publishing and pricing for you.

Exactly. I mentioned in the first post that I tried self-publishing but I just don't have the amount of traffic needed to sustain the site in that way. I had some success early with Adbrite because they have network ads and let advertisers buy ads specifically for your site but the site was removed from their network.

Right. And not to worry as there are plenty of ad and affiliate networks to choose from. Just Google "Best Ad Networks" and you will get an entire list of them

Try to figure out what your clients might respond to and use something like paydotcom, targeting the content toward those users.
