Deroba 02-14-2010, 12:31 AM Waaaiiiitttt, hold on a second. I don't understand the question :( can you make it simpler?
aiss_viv 02-14-2010, 12:34 AM how dedicated IP is useful to resellers/reseller accounts.
Deroba 02-14-2010, 12:38 AM Oh, for setting up SSL... and preventing from being reversed IP for domains you don't own. I don't know
Just think it this way, it makes everything think is a unique server, In terms of email spam, domains in same IP. And lets you use SSL.
websplash 02-14-2010, 02:46 AM SSL mostly I would imagine :) I don't think resellers would have much use for dedicated IP's unless their client requested one. However, it's good to have a few spare IP's sitting there in the pool for any reason.
MoneyBack 02-14-2010, 05:18 AM I thing you can ReSell dedicated IP's
SWH Admin 02-14-2010, 05:27 AM Yes dedicated ips can be resold assuming the client is being hosted on the same server the ip was assigned to.
InfiniteTech 02-14-2010, 05:45 AM The reseller would be able to create all his sub-accounts on this IP address. Making it look more like a dedicated server.
4Drive 02-14-2010, 06:33 AM i am agreed with ganesh-rao, but one more thing is SEO.
Deroba 02-14-2010, 09:20 AM is SEO improved with a dedicated IP?

Deroba 02-14-2010, 10:21 AM Wow, never thought of it.
Thanks for the tip!
Dan_EZPZ 02-14-2010, 11:02 AM I'm fairly certain that having a dedicated IP does not help with regard to SEO. Usually they're only used for SSL certificates, you need 1 IP for every SSL.

is SEO improved with a dedicated IP?
4Drive, tell me more about itThis is some misled information with some off chance co-incidence. SEO and dedicated IP hosting has nothing to do with each other.
What happens is... just to increase the PR/SE rank of a particular site, webmasters use blackhat techniques such as building bogus sites and having all of them linking back to the site you want to have good ranking for. Google and other advanced search engines know this and punish the site by lowering their ranks.
Trying to evade the SE's algorithm by getting dedicated IPs for each site is only temporary. It will not last for ever in the long run of your business/site.
If you play the game honestly, there is no punishment for you :P
sunny3 02-14-2010, 03:27 PM Hello,
Reseller hosting is a simple kind of hosting business. In this concept you don't need to have invest much money just get a reseller hosting a/c with big hosting company. The main purpose of dedicated IP is for SSL setup, and other reason is that to hide your main hosting companies IP or their identity from your clients. If you don't the same then your client can find out that you are not a main host company. Therefore choose those hosting company which gives you more IP it would be more profitable to your reseller business. Its kind of white label business.
hope its enough for you. If you need more details pls. PM me.
Good luck!
Thanks!
NoSupportLinuxHostin 02-14-2010, 04:12 PM SEO does not benefit from a dedicated IP. The myth about SEO benefiting from a dedicated IP address is actually from the late 1990s, well before the age of Google. Anyway, some of the search engines back then used crawler scripts that did not use the host header and were unable to access sites on a shared IP address. Keep in mind, the first browser that supported this function was released in 1997. A lot has changed since then, and the SEO myth about dedicated IP addresses is completely outdated. A dedicated IP is not needed for SEO reasons, and has not been needed for more than a decade.
The only real use for a dedicated IP is SSL. If you want to have an SSL cert on your site, you need to use a dedicated IP for the site.
Ajith Alfred 02-17-2010, 04:22 PM The main purpose of dedicated IP is for installing SSL certificates. SSL works on a encryption/decryption routines which helps processing transactions securely on the web, so you need one dedicated IP. The sole purpose of dedicated IP is this, and I am not aware if it has any SEO factor added to it.

To install a dedicated SSL cert. you need IP, also class C ip address is considered good for SEO purpose.
bojomojo 02-22-2010, 06:36 AM That is not the only use of dedicated IPs.. Actually when it comes to hosting businesses, thats not "the" use..
The dedicated IP resolves to your name when RDNS or WHOIS is done (if the dc offers RDNS) so that your clients will not see the company that you are reselling through your IP.
teachforjune-Scott 02-22-2010, 07:35 AM You're right that SSL is not the only use for a dedicated IP, but here in the US, all IP usage must be justified and on a shared account, there are very few justifications that a shared-host would allow. SSL is the most common. Most shared-hosts aren't going to allow an FTP server or a dedicated mail server for a shared account.

Oh, I didn't mean the previous post.. I meant the post where they said its for SEO purposes.
But still, I think he meant Dedicated IPs that go with reseller accounts.

So if I have a Reseller Hosting account, a customer can easily find out that I'm not the main webhosting company via the WHOIS database? I thought the Reseller Hosting plans white label it for you (even change the header and look of the cpanel, etc..)
