Can anyone tell me how they like fantastico? http://www.cpanelthemes.com/fantastico.html

I'm considering using it, but would like some feedback first.

We have it installed on one of our servers, and our clients on that server love it. Simple and quick installation for most, I have only encountered problems when the client didn't know what to do. I have never had any problems otherwise.

that sounds pretty good alohahosts. Have you ever had to use their support? Did you install it yourselves or did you have them do it?

You only have to install the main software one time on the server and it then appears in their cpanel login, right? Is there any way to choose which customers have access to it or is it automatically a server-wide distribution?

Did you install it yourselves or did you have them do it?I would assume that their software is very easy to install. We use something similar to it and it's as simple as just decompressing some files on to the server and adding a link to your CPanel theme.

You only have to install the main software one time on the server and it then appears in their cpanel login, right? Is there any way to choose which customers have access to it or is it automatically a server-wide distribution? If you want only certain customers to be able to have access to it, you could create two CPanel themes, one with the link to Fantastico and one without, then give each customer the theme with or without it.

as the maker of Fantastico may I jump in?

Installation: If you are able to execute some SSH commands, you are able to install it. There are two things needing installation: The core Fantastico files and the applications's (included scripts).

Fantastico: Upload and untar anywhere. Symlink from within any skin to "anywhere". Add a link to your theme to "fantatsico/index.php".

Scripts: Upload and untar to a specific location. Leave them there.

Updates: Aall included scripts are updated usually once a month.

New scripts: Fantastico started with 4 or 5 scripts and in the meantime has grown to a 12 (I think) scripts installer.

Next generation:
[+] Language-aware

End-user:
[+] User selects where to install (top level directory)
[-] Multiple installations of any given application

Admin:
[+] Web-based Fantastico Admin Panel
[+] Get, untar and install initial applications tarball via Admin Panel
[+] Update any tarball (individual application) via Admin Panel
[+] Enable/Disable any application via Admin Panel
[+] Admin Panel also accessible if you are reseller (no need to be root to update Fantastico, root will only be needed for the initial application)
[+] Restrict usage by account owner (this feature is specifically for resellers who don't want their Fantastico installation to be used by everybody located on the same server -- others will get a message "contact your host to get access to Fantastico")
[+] Restrict usage by package (only xyz packages will be able to use Fantastico, others will get the message "upgrade your package to have access to Fantastico")
[+] Deny for users xyz
[-] Restrict number of possible installations per package (package A may install a total of 3 applications, package B unlimited, package C 0 etc)

All features marked (+) will be available with the initial revised version.
All features marked (-) may or may not be immediatelly available, may or may not be available later.

Next generation by the end of the year, this is a free update for all customers.

Lots of Fantastico customers can be found at http://cpanelthemes.com/forum if you need further opinions, be good or bad -- we are against censorship ;)

I give it an A+

I have it on 3 of my servers and I am very happy with it.

We installed in ourselves, it was a really simple process.

Is there any way to choose which customers have access to it or is it automatically a server-wide distribution?

We installed it server wide, but we can manually choose which version of Cpanel any of our clients get when we set up the accounts. Then later on we can change the cpanel by modifying an account.

Some of our clients really like Xskin and some really like Bluelagoon, so it really depends on the clients preference.

I don't think you can go wrong with installing it.

so fantastico is also a complete theme that includes all its features and the ones included with 'default'?

I'll have to redo some FAQ's so they match up with the new theme if this is the case.

The package is certainly worth the money, no doubt about that. So far it sounds like a good move to try it.

It is not a "theme", it is an addon to any of your themes

wonderful!

that will save me a lot of work.

Sorry i had so many questions here. i just started looking at it and thought i'd check here to see if anyone had any problems before i spent a great deal of time researching the things that everyone has helped me with here.

Definitely looks like it will be time worth spent now.
