View Full Version : NameCheap.com locked my account, called me a liar and refused to talk to me anymore.

I bought and transferred a domain to namecheap.com a while ago, and to my surprise one day when i tried to login i got the message:

"For security reasons, this account has been locked due to too many failed login tries. The user name will be enabled after 12/12/2099 EST. If you think this is an error please email us using the same email address currently on your account to have your account enabled."

I opened a support ticket and told them the error message i got.

They said there was a dispute with network solutions and i would be notified of the outcome.

A year went by and the domain was about to expire so i contacted them again and they said:
"The account was locked by our Fraud Prevention team, they are investigating your recent transactions. Please provide a valid phone number so that they may reach you to confirm some information if needed. Also, specify a time when you will be available.
Now we’re forwarding the ticket to the Fraud Control department."

I gave them a phone number a a time as requested.

Days went by and no one called, yes business days.

I asked them why no one has called me as i provided the information and it has been days.

Then Mr Richard Kirkendall replied with a very big attitude:
"Firstly, that account was locked in 2006 for and illegal transfer. Secondly, there are no domains in that account so whatever domain you are searching for expired last year. Are you sure you still want access to this account?"

I told him that is not what his "fraud control department" told me, and if there is nothing in the account then why is it still locked?

He then said:
Excuse me but you are the one that started this ticket acting as if your account was recently locked to failed transactions. You thought you could get one by our fraud department. Unfortunately for you that was not the case. If you continue down this path with your accusations this account will remain closed and you can take your business elsewhere. That domain is expired and in redemption. We have nothing to do with it nor do we want that domain at all. Maybe it's just best that you do take your business elsewhere.

Note that i never told them anything about my account was recently locked for failed transactions, i just copied and pasted the error message their system gave me.

I told him this and asked him how is this me trying to get one pass his security forces?

He said:
This conversation is now done. Goodbye and goodluck!

I don;t know what's going on here, I have partners and clients who have domains with Namecheap and never got themselves into troubles with this company. Are you sure you are saying all the story here...? According to the quotes you have posted the NameCheap's representative responded very harsh to your ticket. It is easy to presume that someone went crazy on their side, but did you give them a good reason to respond like that...? And one more thing. Did you make a fraudulent domain transfer...

Hmmmm I haven't answered a general support ticket for atleast two years unless it was escalated and I definitely don't remember this conversation. When did it take place again?

from what i remember on this site, whenever namecheap told somebody is a liar, it turned out to be the truth.
they won't just lock an account without any reason. or you really think your domain is worth reputation of the whole company?
it is so easy - just to come on forum and blame a company. you don't show your name, you don't say what the domain is. if you want fairness, be fair yourself. if you want the truth, be honest yourself first.

It'll be interesting to see how iTrini responds to Richard.

Huh? The namecheap representative replied already and said he didn't remember this conversation.

Please don't assume things until (and if) all the facts come out. And I don't believe there is a WHT requirement to post a domain.

from the first message i understood that conversation was in 2006, no? no wonder he doesn't remember then

you're right, i hurried up about conclusion. but if things really took place in 2006, i don't see the point of this thread.

this is not a requirement of WHT to post a domain, but it IS a requirement to "provide the most comprehensive and accurate information available", isn't it , BristolSue?

In Mr. Kirkendalls' reply (in original post), he alludes to the account being locked in 2006. But this supposedly took place later when the renewal attempt was made (which could have been in 2009 or 2010, since you can register for more than one year).

I too am curious to see iTrini's reply, if any, since the whole original post was confusing in the first place. He joined this month, made the two posts and hasn't been back.

And no, the name of the domain is not important to this post. Other info, however, would be. Particularly when this took place.
