Centralized 11-29-2002, 11:18 AM Hello!
A Visa Electron card is only for OFFLINE purchases. It is not meant for online purchases.
PixelBomb 11-29-2002, 11:27 AM Well, amazon.co.uk accepts it...
iKHost 11-29-2002, 05:53 PM why would a credit card only be good for ofline purchases?

1st reply, is amazon.co.uk running your card online or are they taking your order and running it through their regular merchant account?
2nd, the card is so it is not used illegally online, it has to be swiped or punched into a non-internet merchant account. Internet merchant accounts get flagged and they are charged a higher % rate. Did you know that you can request your bank to not allow internet charges on your credit cards.
iKHost 11-29-2002, 06:03 PM ljprevo, thanks for the info
kosmo 11-29-2002, 07:22 PM I had a Visa Electron one year long and it was good enough for all my internet transactions including major registrars, software companies (among them Macromedia) etc. I accept payments via 2Checkout.com and I know that they had slight problems with their system. Some clients reported this but their CCs were accepted after some retries.

edu4vision 07-03-2005, 10:20 AM A news to me.
I'm using 2checkout & I have 2 visa electron card (from different banks)
I have tried purchasing my own product using the card (and refund it later). One card can be use while the other one cannot.
I think it depends on the bank that issued your card.. :)
Mostly it depends if your card is 'enabled' for international purchases. That depends on the card issuer, and the features they offer.
Inyxtech 07-08-2005, 09:33 AM It's worked for me before...
Saeven 07-08-2005, 10:42 AM Hi,
We've been using 2CO for awhile. It does work, but you have to take careful precautions. Their $29 chargebacks are hefty, and most times they've "batched" them on a particular day. To wake up to find out you lost money on several sales, and have on top been charged because of fraudulent orders which they'd originally screened as 'OK' (all at once) is a bit frustrating.
Some precautions which might help you:
- ban countries with high fraud rates from the get go.
- don't rely on 2CO's fraud screening. If the IP doesn't match the reported country - cancel service immediately.
- contact buyers when in doubt.
Hopefully this will assist you until you decide to obtain a merchant account :)
Good luck with your research!
Alex
tickedon 07-08-2005, 02:34 PM What an old thread!
Anyway... my bank replaced all their Switch cards with Visa Electron ones, and my two cards have worked fine on every site I've gone to. There was one site that gave me a "your card is for offline use only" error, but the rest worked fine :)
SEATi 07-08-2005, 11:02 PM Please keep in mind that most Electron cards issued worldwide are DEBIT cards and not CREDIT cards.
Some payment processors won't take debit cards, only credit cards.
I know there are some banks issuing Visa-Electron credit cards, but Electron is basicly used for debit and ATM cards, as well as Cirrus-Maestro (MasterCard's counterpart).
tandem 07-12-2005, 11:47 AM You can use the Electron card on the Internet just like a Visa credit card. This is only valid if your card has the Visa sign on it.
mine has visa sign and doesn't work
my bank told me electron visa is only for offline purchases that swapped on machines ONLY because electron visa is a debit card not a credit card AFAIK
tandem 07-17-2005, 01:29 PM Your bank obviously is not allowing you to use it as a Visa debit card, despite the sign on it. You can always change your bank. :)
