View Full Version : R1soft and Xen nodes

While taking into consideration of using R1soft for backups instead of rsync, I came upon some confusion. Does r1soft take a snapshot of the entire server? This would include all of the VPS clients' data. Or, does it require an r1soft license per VPS? To be clear, the goal is not to allow the client to control the backup themselves, but rather backup everyone's data in case of a disaster on that node.

Agent license required only for node.

Agent license required only for node.

That is only the case for OpenVZ and VZ. Xen requires 1 agent per vps.

"the goal is not to allow the client to control the backup themselves, but rather backup everyone's data in case of a disaster on that node."

We did such setup for our own Xen node and this work with 1 agent license. As TS mention he don't need offer for their end-user R1Soft backup solution (at least for free :)) .

Good luck restoring. See http://wiki.r1soft.com/display/kb/Running+The+CDP+Agent+On+Xen

"The Agent should be installed inside of the domU virtual machine. That is the only way to perfectly freeze and thaw the domU's file systems for a perfect snapshot. "

I will probably test this as well.
