However, your sub-resellers CAN'T set prices lower than $8.95. coight 11-29-2002, 09:31 AM That's what I thought I tried changing the pricing from 29.95/yr (default) and received: Retail price is not higher than parent reseller account by sufficient amount. Hi, I'm an ETP and I can't create sub-resellers with prices lower than $8.95. Nor can any other ETP, this was stopped over a month ago. Sub-retail < $8.95 yes, sub-reseller < $8.95 no. Any sub-reseller accounts that you see being advertised with prices lower than $8.95 were created before the ruling went into effect. If anyone can buy a sub-reseller account with < $8.95 pricing AND they can specify their own login ID, I'd love to know where! Best wishes, Simon. coight 11-30-2002, 06:56 PM So the etp is just as bad as resellers of an ETP... what's the point on being an ETP then? AQHost 11-30-2002, 07:00 PM Originally posted by Myacen So the etp is just as bad as resellers of an ETP... what's the point on being an ETP then? In a word "stability". I go to bed at night knowing that the only people who can change my pricing levels are eNom. I'm not reliant on a whole chain of people who I wouldn't know from Adam. Best wishes, Simon. coight 11-30-2002, 07:01 PM I guess your right, however us etp's should be allowed to offer domains at $6.95 levels if we wish. Whip 11-30-2002, 08:13 PM Well, you can always offer domains for $6.95 but not accounts. Remeber what happen before? $6.95 accounts for $10 on ebay and no support and if was really unfair for etp's who paid the deposit. Incognito 11-30-2002, 08:35 PM People didn't know who they were dealing with. Retail pricing structures were being destroyed because people were becoming $6.95 resellers with an $10 investment. Unscrupulous resellers were taking others domains. People had no idea where to go for support. It was and still is quite a mess that has been created. It is one thing to register a domain with an Enom reseller, but a reseller of a reseller of a reseller of a reseller is absolutely horrifying. One thing you could always depend on was the safety of registering your domains. And, the situation created by enom has endangered that and, while creating business for enom, damaged their reputation. It has also hurt their profit margins by moving the average price being paid for their domains down. I think enom was always comfortable with large volume resellers paying $6.95, but not with those selling 5 a year paying $6.95. Last, their has been considerable fraud by these buy-in, low end resellers who have sold domain names, but not paid enom for them. All in all, enom had a good idea, but let it go too far and was forced to attempt to regain control. Whether they can accomplish that goal is still a point of concern. I, personally, look for them to take additional steps at some time by eliminating the grandfather clause and raising the minimum price to any resellers who are not direct resellers of Enom to $8.95. I was a prospective Enom reseller, but I did not want to go through someone else. I was ready to pay the initial fee necessary to get their best price, but when I saw people getting that same price for an investment of $10, I said no way. As a reseller for two other registrars I was also bothered by the chaos created in the marketplace by Enom's strategy to turn everyone loose and relinquish control in order to move up the volume ladder of registrars. And before you think I am one just wanting to protect high domain prices understand I have never sold a domain for more than $12.99, so I am greatly in favor of the competition andd very pleased that the cost of domains has gone down (as an owner of over 400 domains obviously I have saved). It is just letting the market get out of control and having domains sold at a rate that couldn't provide long term profit that i think has been bad for the industry. |
