It has been very reliable, but they don't have as many POPs as other CDNs and their bandwidth performance isn't the greatest. We've conducted some CDN performance testing to include SimpleCDN and have posted the results on our blog (http://blog.cloudharmony.com/2010/02/cloud-speed-test-results.html) crazylane 02-17-2010, 04:21 PM We've been using/testing their services for about 6 months. I tried highwinds but they were just awful. cloudharmony 02-17-2010, 04:35 PM I would like a CDN where I can create sub accounts, do you know of any? I tried highwinds but they were just awful. Try the SoftLayer CDN (http://softlayer.com/cloudlayer/cdn/). They resell Internap CDN which is better than SimpleCDN and Highwinds @ $0.20/GB with no monthly minimums and you can setup sub-accounts. crazylane 02-17-2010, 04:42 PM Thanks, but don't care for SL. cloudharmony 02-17-2010, 04:48 PM Try GoGrid then, they resell Edgecast (#3 CDN marketshare) and you can just setup multiple gogrid accounts if you need more than one sub-account. They also have no min commit. crazylane 02-17-2010, 05:04 PM Try GoGrid then, they resell Edgecast (#3 CDN marketshare) and you can just setup multiple gogrid accounts if you need more than one sub-account. Yes they support both origin and pop pull onexenvps 02-17-2010, 06:24 PM Try Amazon CDN they beat anyone in this market cloudharmony 02-17-2010, 08:25 PM MaxCDN is another good CDN that also supports sub-accounts and both origin and pop pull at about $0.10/GB WoodiE55 03-15-2010, 07:27 AM I've been using SimpleCDN to host a few of my sites image files for about the last 3-4 months now and I haven't had any issue with them thus far. Granted I don't put a lot of stress on their servers either, I signed up for a trial account ($15 free) and I've still got just over $14 left in free credit so take that for what it's worth. wheimeng 04-14-2010, 01:52 AM I would like a CDN where I can create sub accounts, do you know of any? I tried highwinds but they were just awful. you looking to resell or what? tulix 04-15-2010, 09:05 PM Try Amazon CDN they beat anyone in this market I don't think they do live streaming, also they don't do mobile streaming last time I've checked... tulix 04-15-2010, 09:06 PM MaxCDN is another good CDN that also supports sub-accounts and both origin and pop pull at about $0.10/GB $.10 per GB is kind of equivalent of $30 per Mb/s - you may be able to find better prices on the market temporalillusion 04-15-2010, 10:21 PM I use SimpleCDN to host images and static files for a fairly busy vBulletin forum, and it's been working quite well for us, I really haven't had any reports of downtime or slowness or issues like that. wheimeng 04-16-2010, 12:29 AM I use SimpleCDN to host images and static files for a fairly busy vBulletin forum, and it's been working quite well for us, I really haven't had any reports of downtime or slowness or issues like that. did you use url rewrite to rewrite the images or is there any plugin to rewrite the static files? temporalillusion 04-16-2010, 12:59 AM I actually just edit the URLs manually in the vB software, in there you can specify locations for almost everything. It's usually used for the templates, in the templates area you can set the file locations for buttons to /yourtemplatename/buttons instead of /buttons. So I just change the location to http:/whatever.lg1x8z.simplecdn.net/images/whatever/buttons You can do the same thing with the avatars and profile pics, and use the mirror buckets so you don't have to setup some kind of upload script. Some are harder, for the smilies and thread images I actually have to do a string replace in the database. And for the javascript files I use the replacement variables. It's really a PITA, especially upgrading. I suggested to VB that they make this a feature; just specify a CDN with mirroring capability and bam, done. But we were at a point where we were saturating our link, more than 50% of our bandwidth and 66% of hits were being generated by static images and .js and .css files, this made a world of difference for us, basically let us grow quite a bit more on the same hardware since we all of a sudden had 50% more bandwidth to work with and hits were down.. didn't take long to run into a CPU bottlneck though :) temporalillusion 04-16-2010, 01:00 AM I never thought about using rewrite, but that would still put a load on the http server since it would still have to service all the hits to rewrite them right? VPSGODSJohn 04-17-2010, 09:39 AM There servers are really slow. ANything that loaded off simplecdn loaded 10x faster on my server. crazylane 04-18-2010, 11:09 AM I decided to go with MaxCDN and have been very happy so far! They have a new API and it works great, the API will allow us to pull the CDN usage into our billing and reporting. We have also implemented the API to purge images, etc.. for our e-commerce clients. So, when a you change an product image the CDN image is purged. hhw 04-18-2010, 01:20 PM $.10 per GB is kind of equivalent of $30 per Mb/s - you may be able to find better prices on the market I'd say it's more like $20, or even less considering CDN bandwidth tends to be burstier than regular traffic, especially given the geographically distributed nature. Given the same amount of traffic, the sum of 95th's across multiple links is going to be markedly higher than the 95th on a single link. $0.10/GB is quite reasonable, especially with a minimal commit. albatroz 05-17-2010, 03:53 PM I would like a reseller-friendly solution like livestream.com I will keep checking the URLs mentioned in this thread. I hope some people can list additional resources. you looking to resell or what? error10 05-18-2010, 02:25 PM I've used SimpleCDN for a few months to serve static files (mostly some videos that are 45-90 minutes, along with images, CSS, etc.). It's worked out fairly well for me. The only thing I've really noticed is that the first pull of a resource (I'm using a Mirror bucket) sometimes results in a very long (5-15 seconds) delay. I've never had any issue with it that would have required me to actually contact them. albatroz 05-19-2010, 12:08 PM I am looking for a Flash streaming solution, something like www.livestreaming.com I looked the website of maxcdn.com but as I see it is more expensive. Do you think the extra features worth the extra price? I decided to go with MaxCDN and have been very happy so far! They have a new API and it works great, the API will allow us to pull the CDN usage into our billing and reporting. We have also implemented the API to purge images, etc.. for our e-commerce clients. Today we complained and they closed our account, deleted all our files and are lying to PayPal when we tried to initiate a chargeback. They actually had the audacity to tell PayPal we had a negative balance and that's why they closed our account. We had about $35 left and somehow it just magically dissapered as soon as we complained...how convienient. You can read the full story here: forums.cgarchitect.com/60570-warning-simplecdn-very-poor-customer-service-support.html I would not recommend using them for anything! Run far far away. cakehouse 06-01-2010, 07:55 PM What did you complain about? jmottle 06-03-2010, 01:30 AM What did you complain about? I had posted a critial ticket about extreme latency and files that would just not load intermitantly. I sent them an example file link, to which they replied, there are no problems and to send them an example file. I replied back that I had alrady given them a file and 24 hours later they still had not replied. As I was under deadline I moved everything for this current project to AmazonS3/Cloudfront and then posted back in the ticket that we were not going to use them anymore and to just close the ticket. I indicated we were fed up with the poor support, constantly changing price plans, lack of communication about changes and product discontinuation (like Highwinds and Mirror and Upload Buckets) and that we would be moving all of our files currently online to another provider. Rather than try to win us back as a customer, they opted instead to just delete all of our files and account without warning. We still had credit in the account, which we then disputed with PayPal. They SimpleCDN has the balls to tell PayPal that we were overdue in paying our account and that is why they closed the account. We're still waiting on PayPal to rule on this, but I'm sure SimpleCDN's lies (obviously something they do often based on other Googled stories) will win out. ServerOrigin 06-03-2010, 02:24 AM Not sure about their support but they have some nice offerings.. As in, it looks great from the website but the service is below average. When we tested them, we ended up really killing our ranking. Our site dropped to "92% slower than all sites" per Google. Stay away if you run your business off of the site. It'd be great for a blog or something like that.. cakehouse 06-03-2010, 03:40 AM I don't know if it's the right place to post this but SimpleCDN Mirror buckets is currently down right now for my site and 2 off my friend's sites. x3sphere 06-03-2010, 03:51 PM I'd be very wary of dealing with a CDN provider with prices as low as theirs. |
