View Full Version : Hostgator v Surpass Hosting v Site5
deeve007 02-07-2010, 06:06 AM So, after some research through these forums and elsewhere, have boiled down to a choice between these three reseller hosts.
So any suggestions on which would be the best choice ...etc?
It depends on what is your taste.
Are you looking for good network? Good support? Location?
Each host has a different qualification so you need to focus things that is really important for you and rate it.
All have their good points, but HostGator is top with support and reliability. That being said, HostGator does not allow overselling and in my opinion, the packages they offer suck. After a lot of thinking and researching, I will be looking for a VPS to get started and build from that.
deeve007 02-07-2010, 06:32 AM Well location isn't a priority, I'm actually going back to US hosts after trying a couple of Australian hosts (where I am), however their service and support wasn't up to what I wanted for me and my clients.
So really, decent support, good uptime and decent speeds (relative to where I am). The three hosts I'm deciding on all have similar plans and features, so really just looking for anyone's personal experience/impressions and preferences.

One thing I don't need/want is overselling.
RichPixel 02-07-2010, 07:02 AM I have used all 3 in the past, hostgator sucked for me, support was lousy and had loads of problems with the hosting, surpass and site 5 were better, the hosting was faster, surpass bandwidth is more, they give free whmcs on the reseller where site 5 have clientexec and the bandwidth is smaller.
hope this helps
serennau 02-07-2010, 07:08 AM I have two resellers on Surpass. They're very good, their support is quick and helpful.
I haven't been hosted with Surpass, but all the times I've contacted them they've been fast an helpful. I'm looking to buy a reseller from them soon :)

Funny enough, seems you're currently hosted with one of the Oz hosts I'm a little less than enthused about.
Also, I'm tired of worrying about my hosting all the time with a "smaller" company with less history. I know there's pros & cons, but with a good history I will feel more comfortable that I can have all my client sites hosted in the one place for years to come.
Envisage have always been outstanding from my experience. Amazing support and they actually care about their customers. I have a VPS with them and I've never had any problems.
jpatton 02-08-2010, 12:26 AM The only one of those three that I personally have any experience with was hostgator. For me their support was always rapid and their network stability was excellent. As for the other two I can't comment since I haven't had any experience.

May i ask in your signature why do you still state your looking for a reseller?
HostDime 02-08-2010, 10:44 AM Also, I'm tired of worrying about my hosting all the time with a "smaller" company with less history. I know there's pros & cons, but with a good history I will feel more comfortable that I can have all my client sites hosted in the one place for years to come.
We can definitely agree and see your position. Going with a company which has been around for over 5 years and operates their own data center does give a feeling of comfort.
dhcart 02-09-2010, 10:49 AM We have a lot of reseller accounts on Hostdime and Surpasshosting(a member of Hostdime family) for years. Their services are very similar. But Hostdime support is a little better. I can recomend both of them.
We had a reseller account for long time on Site5 before. Their services was good initially. But then uptime of the servers and the support got too worse. I recommend stay away from this company.
chown 02-09-2010, 05:39 PM A datacenter wouldn't be a requeriment for you. There thousands of web hosting providers that can offer you a high quality web hosting service without have their own datacenter.
one more + for Suprass. They are great, i start with them and now i have successful story for my work

It's possible that you were hosting with S5 during the later years of the previous management when things were not running very smoothly. Since the new management has taken over, things have changed dramatically so just wanted to put that in perspective. Thanks. :)
don_13 02-13-2010, 11:35 AM i wouldn't recommend site5 i have a bad experience with them
tech_esq 02-13-2010, 12:32 PM We've been with Hostgator for over 5 years now. I'm not one to put up with too much lack of performance. When we have needed Hostgator to perform, they have. We started out with a shared host. We now have a full physical server (as opposed to virtual server) we lease from them and one we manage for a client of ours.
We have only had one incident that has caused us to question Hostgator. On the shared server, just before it was replaced (we'd already received notification about the pending move), the server crashed and caused an extensive outage for some folks. Others, like us, were up and running on a new server within hours of the crash. But, some people lost data and were out of action for over a week. If I had been one of those other people, I would have been telling bad stories about Hostgator, but I wasn't and learned a valuable lesson about web site backup. It's great that the host does it, but it makes sense for you to do your own on a regular basis.
webyoong 02-16-2010, 08:30 AM I have a reseller account on Surpass and their service has been great so far. Fast Support and Quality service. :)
panthersfan 02-17-2010, 09:42 AM I have a reseller account with Hostgator and my experience with them has been very pleasant. Have been with them for over 7 months now and had not have a problem yet with downtime. Contacted support a couple of times on minor issues and their response was fast and resolved all my problems.
I have had about 3 resellers before and Hostgator has been the best of all 3.
hugege 02-19-2010, 11:52 AM Site5 is good.Good support!
