View Full Version : Sad... Sad... World... *read*
Xx iBm xX 11-28-2002, 07:26 PM I thought this wasn't true but it seems to be. A Comcast(Internet Service Provider) Installer/Worker got into an argument with a customer while installing her modem and soon the Comcast worker stabbed her to death. The Worker also tried to set fire to the building to hide the body.
As everything said. Comcast now has a new slogan...
Comcast - "Our customer service is to die for"
ZiCmaN 11-28-2002, 07:27 PM Where was this at? Any news links for it?
Xx iBm xX 11-28-2002, 07:29 PM Sorry this was recent so no site has links up for it... And this either happened in NY or NJ one of those two. I saw this on NBC news.
ZiCmaN 11-28-2002, 07:32 PM thanks. sad is an understatement, huh?!?
Acronym BOY 11-28-2002, 07:34 PM Google doesn't see it:

Plus I live in NY and haven't heard a thing about this. Not to mention I doubt there would be any installs on a federal holiday. Banks and court (woohoo!) are closed.
If it is true, it sucks, but I don't see anything to back this up.
Xx iBm xX 11-28-2002, 07:43 PM Oh and one more thing the worker was a free lance installer... And it happened in a apartment. Wait a little bit. News should get it
Alex[nl] 11-28-2002, 08:09 PM Wow. . .is this one of those "only in America" things ?

You mean there is no murder outside of America?
Wow, it must be one of those barbaric American things.
As for the news, yeah, I've got the news on now and nothing has been mentioned. I'll post back if I do see it though.
pcsteve 11-28-2002, 08:33 PM I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions just yet...there is still no proof of this ever happening.
ForumsAddict 11-28-2002, 08:39 PM :flamethr: Comcast customer service

Euh, ever heard of "zinloos geweld" ?
Read the papers :D
I doubt this story is true as stated. For one, a "free lance installer" is not a Comcast worker. He might be a * independant contractor who does work for Comcast.
Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the US. Banks, govt offices, and most service oriented businesses are closed, and many employees have today thru monday off with pay. The only people that are working today are retail, and maybe a few small service providers by choice.
There is no way Comcast would have schedualed any installs today.
In order for that story to be true, it would have to be that the independant contractor for Comcast volunteered to work today, and it's even more likely she offered him something extra or he knew her and was doing her a favor.
* I should know, I am an Independant contractor. I make it clear (to those that ask) I do not work for the company when performing said contract.
Xx iBm xX 11-28-2002, 09:07 PM Like i said.... FREELANCE INSTALLER
joe1565 11-28-2002, 09:13 PM Sounds like a rumor.
I edited my post, to add that a freelance installer is NOT a Comcast worker.

Xx iBm xX 11-28-2002, 09:19 PM THE NEWS IS IN!!! NO RUMOR FELLAS !!!!
HERE IS THE FACTS!!!!
http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-2/103846756760730.xml
The murder happened last week but they just found out yesterday... My bad
I am just too good
OK so we are both right!
Well you are right, except for the "Comcast worker" part.
Gordon said Phillips was not employed directly by a cable company but worked as a "freelance contractor."
Phillips had been employed by 180 Connect, an independent contractor that assured Comcast he had passed a criminal background check, Alexander added.
"It is our strict practice to ensure that all New Jersey contracted and in-house employees submit to a criminal background check," he said. "Comcast frequently checks all contractors to ensure compliance with company practice."
Xx iBm xX 11-28-2002, 09:33 PM Actually i am 15/16 RIGHT!!
Phillips did installation work for Comcast Cable. In a statement issued by a company spokesman, Comcast Cable expressed sorrow over the death of Joaquin and insisted that the safety of its customers is a "top priority

Sorry i really didn't pay attetion to the NJ news at 6
It's ok. Common mistake. I'm used to it.
That's nuts when you can't trust someone that enters your home to perfom a service. I make sure to allow my dogs to roam the house freely when I have to have a stranger, I mean worker over to do something. If my dogs don't like them, neither do I.
Acroplex 11-29-2002, 12:05 AM No wonder I am always polite to the Roadrunner techs, you just never know :D
The Dude 11-29-2002, 12:13 AM Thats terrible that a worker could let himself become that attached to someone, that he stabbed her 2 death.......
I dunno, the world is going down the tubes i think........
The Dude :)
