View Full Version : Merchant accounts - anyone get a better deal than this?
captnroger 04-17-2001, 04:45 PM Anyone know of a better deal than this for a merchant account? This is through Cardservices
$198 setup (includes application and software)
2.35% on all transactions
$35.00 monthly (includes gateway and statement fee)
Statements online and printed copy, online and offline transaction.
Anyone got a better deal?
I would not recommend them as they tend to hide fee's.
One place you might want to look is http://www.creditcardprocessor.com

dherman76 04-18-2001, 10:15 AM We use Revecom as well, and they seem to be great!
instabill.com
No set up fees
No monthly fees
10% per transaction
for mid/low-cost hosting, it is great.
Revecom setup $49.00
Instabill setup $0.00
Someone signs up for $10
Revecom charge = $1 + .40 = $1.40
Instabill charge = 10% = $1
Someone signs up for $5
Revecom = $1 + .20 = $1.20
Instabill = 10% = .50
Someone signs up for $20
Revecom = $1 + .80 = $1.80
Instabill = 10% = $2.00
GordonH 04-18-2001, 03:14 PM Also.........
Instabill have incredibly good fraud detection/verification systems.
We use them as a back up for Amex and Discover card.
They weed out fake nd stolen cards much more reliably than the gateway for our main account (Worldpay)
Talking of Worldpay, their monthly billing system - as supplied - does not check the persons credit card details until the next day!
This means that they can have 24 hours of spamming fun on your server before the card bounces.
It *is* possible to have the first payment taken immediately but you need to pay up for one of their expensive packages.
They wouldn't tell me how to do it so i hacked away at their code until I worked it out, but it took a fair bit of scripting as I you need to initiate two transactions simultaneously.
At least it is fixed now and the spammers loophole is closed.

ksstudio 04-18-2001, 11:00 PM ksstudio....a question ... how get you personal information of you new customer with this sistem?
There is a column at the Revecom Customer sign up form where customer have to fill in their particular & cc info. You can create any extra field there.
After the sign-up process, customers profile can be store at the customer management part in your ToTal Cart (your control panel)
If you need other information u may also create your own form, revecom will redirect the customer to your form after signup process. (but i dun think it is necessary - most the time!)
Hope can help! :)
CrazyHostGuy 04-19-2001, 07:16 AM Revecom sounds good, unless your transactions are quite small. Consider a $2.00 transaction. With Revecom your transaction fee would be $1.00 + $0.08 for a total of $1.08. That's a 54% transaction fee!!
In this case you may want to consider WorldPay, if your volume is large enough. There's a $399 setup charge, and $25 monthly fee. After that though, the transaction costs are 2.6% (i think) + $0.30. For the $2.00 example, your transaction fee would be $0.35 or 17.5%... still rather large, but better than Revecom. AND you'd have to have enough transactions to warrant the high setup costs and monthly $25.00.
For those just starting out (and with smaller dollar value transactions) I would go with Revecom. At some point in the future as your hosting business grows however, it may be worthwhile to switch to WorldPay.
Just my two cents worth!
Rob.
GordonH 04-19-2001, 12:59 PM Hi
Just to point out that Worldpay have different rates for different countries.
The UK rate is £125 per year (about half what the $25 per month works out at.
Gordon
Also at instabill, you can set up extra fields to get customer information and anything else you need without making a separate form, or you can have it redirect to a form that you build.
From what I've seen, instabill does everything Revecom can without the setup fee.
You can also put your logo in the signup form at instabill.
fergal 12-06-2002, 09:07 AM the worldpay rate is now gone up yet again,is now £150 plus vat
closer to £180 per year
