Acroplex 11-28-2002, 05:55 PM They need to change the title of the page :D SimonMc 11-28-2002, 06:24 PM Sumo's Web Host List was sold to CNET for $29 million. This site did not offer the same kind of comprehensive unbiased content HostCompare.com does I think this quote belongs to another erra..ie pre dot com bubble burst. I have a good friend who was one of the founders of the crashed internet firm ...letsbuyit.com and back then people were throwing money at anything.....so making money comparisans to this erra are completly worthless. For $29Million then...read $29 now..just for the domain. Simon ninji 11-28-2002, 06:25 PM man if only someone wanted to give me 2.5 mil more.. i would have enough to open my DC finally.... Synthetic 11-28-2002, 08:05 PM I don't understand why mostly everything on HostCompare is derived from other sites. (News, search tools, etc...) The site itself seems to be a weak individual product. I'm not sure how confident potential investors will be. KualoJo 11-29-2002, 12:04 AM Hey, how could they even compete with WHT these days? If this thing is marketed well, I believe it *will* be the industry leader for hosting advice and commentry. I mean, whats better than a site the owners don't even have to update?? phpcoder 11-29-2002, 12:42 AM Its hard to get a few thousand these days, even with a awesome business plan. 2.3 million... well... best of luck ;) dynamicnet 11-29-2002, 11:58 AM Greetings: A. "- Sumo's Web Host List was sold to CNET for $29 million. This site did not offer the same kind of comprehensive unbiased content HostCompare.com does." 1. When did the sale take place? 2. If it is the pre-DOT COM bust era, then I would not list it as being relevant because you will turn investors away from you. NTT just wrote off billions of dollars for the huge investment it made in Verio Corporation. Do you want to remind VC's who may have the slightest bit of interest in your venture that if they invested 2.3 million they may have a 2.3 million or higher right off in the near future? B. "New Page 2" as a page title does not add any confidence. C. Most investors want solid business plans that give them a level of confidence that they will get a larger return on investment than any other place to invest their money. Who recommends your site doesn't matter to them unless that can be translated into dollars and cents for them. Thank you. Angel78 11-29-2002, 12:06 PM 2,3 Mio  ubergeek22 11-29-2002, 12:51 PM So they're going to spend the money on "prominent headquarters in New York City"... have they learn nothing from the many failures before them? Buy decent headquarters when you're making a decent profit  Have they actually raised this money though? Or is this a plea to potential investors? If they had the money in the bank, they'd name the company stupid enough to invest surely? :o Synthetic 11-29-2002, 02:15 PM No, they (well, Matt himself) has yet to have raised the money. He constantly dreams up new plans and goals (many of which he has posted on WHT) but fails to pursue them. This 2.3 million fundraiser is his latest plan, and I, quite frankly believe it is a foolish one. If he is planning on opening a headquarters in NY (heh, good idea - one of the most expensive states to live in) and hire full-time content editors, he'll basically be starting from the bottom of the ladder. (Seeing as how the site has little content of its own, everything comes from other resources). If HostCompare was a well established brand with a solid business plan, looking to expand its horizons, this could be a good idea, yet still risky nonetheless. However, HostCompare is far behind its competitors, and even if the competitors were to close its doors, HostCompare would be forced to do just the same. ...The site is more of a link directory rather than "the largest host comparison resource center." brn2h8 11-29-2002, 07:16 PM The owner of Host Compare is only 19 years old, which greatly reduces his chances which are already slim to nil.... I think he smoked his Wheaties this morning. MadCool 12-01-2002, 02:49 AM It could be fake. Maybe he's trying to pretend that he got 2.3 mil in funding, this way he can fool potential "real" investor into investing with him. phpcoder 12-01-2002, 02:51 AM I think thats an overview of what the 2.3 million would be used for. EDIT: Look at the page title. "New Page 2" :stickout: BMurtagh 12-01-2002, 11:17 AM i could buy a car and finally get rid of my tricycle with that 2.3 mil. :) phpcoder 12-01-2002, 11:40 AM Would be one hell of car :D bambenek 12-01-2002, 01:11 PM This is exactly what I was talking about when I was talking about the flagrant lies that I see on webhosts homepages these days... What;s next? A promise to be able to walk on water? BMurtagh 12-01-2002, 01:40 PM you mean we can't walk on water? |
