Hello. Kind of new to dedicated servers, have some questions before I actually put get one :) Well, I tried with Raq and WHM/Cpanel before. learnt how to do most of the daily tasks while I was "playing" around with them (let's hope it has not been rusty after months, but anyway I will get my fren to help)

So my question now is, which one in your opinion is *better* for me to start up my web hosting biz as in *easy to manage* and *features*? I am deciding between a Raq 550 from tera-byte (always like their support) or a WHM/Cpanel server (provider is yet to decide). I think that Raq is easier to manage, but a lot of weird troubles (even updating patches from Cobalt can cause some problems), and WHM/CPanel definitely has more features (but a bit pricy and I am not that familiar with it).

Please don't ask me to start with reseller plans, I was a reseller. Have a fren who has some project coming up soon which need a host to host it. So either I be the host and host it to get some big bucks, or I get someone to host it (which I am not considering at all currently). He wants no reseller. :(

Btw, if you can supply your reasons of why choose A over B, it would be great for me to refer and make a good decision :) and plz forgive my bad English. :)

I have not had good exeriences with raqs, they seem to not be able to handle a lot of script usage and memory usage tends to be more servere.

MarcD: is it really so? Didn't know that. Thought a raq would be quite okay since I have seen some raq hosts doing quite well so far.

neon: not really totally unfamiliar with, just didn't have enough time to check out every feature of it last time. but I think the concepts are quite the same right?

raq's are just fine, IMHO better for start-up than plain RH / Cpanel :)

I think you shouldn't be starting a Web Hosting Biz if you don't know how to admin a box without a control panel. I am not trying to be an ass or anything but you should know what to do if the control panel stops working, or have someone who can do it for you.

Just my opinion.

Thanks

that's why I get my friend to help as a server admin. :)

but anyway, I think I will use WHM/Cpanel. Thanks for your replies. :)
